Question about 2 small coils

Coinseeker 78

New member
I have a 8x6 SEF coil I love and have found many good coins and artifacts with. I have been considering getting an 4.5x7 Accelerator coil .Is there enough difference in the coil to warrant owning both? Thanks in advance.

My guess is that if you love the one, the other will not live up to that. I have no experience with either coil though. The difference in size of the two will hardly make much difference in trashy ground. See if you can get one to test out rather than buy.

I love my Sun Ray 8". A while back I traded a probe for a SR 5". I used it once and discovered that it makes iron sound better than it should. It does seperate super, but I hardly ever use it. Same manufacturer but the 8" beats it to heck except in super trashy ground.

Hope this helps and HH - BF

their unique traits and nuances.

We all have our opinions on how and what each coil can do for us as individuals.

Me personally...over time I have come to feel the 6 x 8 is a little too chirpy for my liking on my SE...but I LOVE it on my E-trac.

I feel the 4.5 x 7 Excelerator definitely picks a few more goodies out of the iron for me than the 6 x 8 does.

Does that mean you will feel the same?...absolutely not.

As for the 4.5 x 7 Excelerator coil...it's very hot...and it is a little smaller which allows you to get a tighter footprint in extreme trash sections.

The key to it being hot and just as hot as the 6 x 8 SEF is that for me it is more stable on my SE.

All of this being said...am I telling you there is enough difference between the two to warrant you to buy one...no. That is a decision that only you can make no matter what anyone tells you...including me.

If you can find a used one at a decent price...around $100...then I would suggest giving it a shot. If you don't like it you should be able to recover most of your money back.

I just leave the Sunray X8 on my Explorer 2 all the time now ( this is my go to set up ) . It seems to work out fine for me. My Explorer SE will be used with the 5X10 Joey , 11" Pro or on the few occasions I beach hunt the 15" WOT .
