Sorry if I missed a post on it but has anyone tried one?

If you’re using a Microsoft OS you’re also using a product with a shady past. Look into what they did when DOS 6.0 came out. Ever hear of Giant bicycles? Big name in bicycles. They made bikes for Schwinn for years under contract. Stole the designs and started marketing their own bikes. This kind of stuff happens frequently in the business world. Not condoning it, but it is a reality of business.

Deteknix got sued over the Quest, and lost.
They had a banner here, and a day came they could not pay.
....adios muchachos. :nopity:

Lets get this right.
The new Quest (no longer Deteknix) metal detectors the Q20 and Q40 are not Teknetics clones. The Q40 works great, UK European guys are loving it, finding lots of treasures, very popular.

The NEW Quest Pro was just released, I did not get one to test, oh well, local Canadian dealer got 3 in. Was able to turn it on for 5 minutes.
No longer T2 clone software. First Texas saw to that.
Current performance, haven't a clue, reports and videos will start to appear shortly. For current news on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/347026685747645/ UK site.
Dealer stock of Quest Products sold in the US by many dealers, Andy Sabish sells them and should have a Pro report some time soon. He just did one on the Q40 for Lost treasure mag.

Somebody did make a T2 clone but it looked exactly like a T2. Saw it on you tube once.

I've been following the facebook group, and one fellow in the UK took it to what he said was a pounded site, and pulled a roman ring and 7 roman coins. First time out. He also just got an Equinox 800 and is going to compare them on video. Should be interesting.

....an industry first PI? Nope-a Chinese made VLF in a ML looking PI package.
Does not take any innovation to pirate someone elses intellectual property-just a willingness to steal.
They changed the company name....maybe because the original became a trademark for theft? Or it was part of the court settlement.
But if you think changing the name changes the character of the company....guess again-its the same people--they got caught, more careful now.
FAKE T-2'S.....yep.
http://md-hunter.com/deteknix-is-gone-just-got-sued-by-its-competitor/

There are about 20+ companies still making and selling fake T2's. They will even make custom face plates decals of your design and slap them on like Mars had done and sold them as Viking and selling genuine Fishers as well.
The fake T2's and GoldBug Pros were originally to be sold to the African market for the gold rush.

If some one is interested in knowing about the new Quest Pro and possibly buying one, that's their decision. What you think or I think really has no bearing in the persons decision. There are hundreds of satisfied Quest Q40 customers out who could give a rats ars what you or I think, they are finding treasures and loving the detector. The new Pro will have its followers as well. I bet if you picked up a Quest Q40 or Pro to try, you would own one. There are many hypocrite detectorists who poo-poo'd a particular detector brand and now own one. Its amazing how many swore that European detectors were junk at one time, now look at how many are being sold to Americans.........................

By the way, there's a huge dealer base of Quest detectors now in the USA who will be offering Quest Products. If the products were junk, they wouldn't be selling them.

The orig. Post was about "has anyone tried them?", guess this post has been hijacked and no longer on the orig. topic.

The story of Mr. Deng is an unusual one. I'll tell it as best I can here, and if someone thinks I got it wrong (including Mr. Deng himself) they're welcome to post their disagreement.

Mr. Deng is a metal detector enthusiast, and resident of California. He wanted to get into the metal detector business. He had business contacts in China who furnished him with T2 clones disguised as something else. But with a trademark sounding kind of like "Teknetics" and virtually identical behaviors, the intent was for customers to know they were getting a T2 clone since the T2 has a good reputation.

Now in the USA, all that would be regarded as unethical. An honest businessperson wouldn't do it, and I don't recall anything like that ever happening in the past. However China has no history of the concept of "intellectual property", only of fraudulent representation which is fraud no matter how you cut it. So in Chinese culture, what Mr. Deng did would not be considered unethical at all. They were good honest clones, Mr. Deng packaged them in a design of his own making, no fraudulent misrepresentation that I'm aware of. The dispute was over IP. Mr. Deng made a business decision that seemed legit to him, and learned a hard lesson about differences in business cultures.

I don't regard Mr. Deng as a "bad guy" -- as far as I can tell, he's a decent chap who made a miscalculation out of ignorance. I haven't paid much attention to his products or company, but if his company survives he'll probably turn out ot be a respected competitor.

And at this point, with his own designs, his opinion of knockoff artists is probably about the same as ours.

You are very forgiving and conciliatory; Europe has the same views and the same problems with Chinese piracy-and act same as the US. FT suing seems that they thought it was not-an honest mistake-
Deng lives (part-time) here....he knew what he was doing and the consequences. (recall the US basketball players stealing "material" property in China-and being arrested--maybe things are not so different-
....besides they could have shop-lifted it at Wal-mart and no customs worries getting it back here)
From Wikipedia:
Intellectual property rights (IPRs) have been acknowledged and protected in the People's Republic of China since 1979.[citation needed] The People's Republic of China has acceded to the major international conventions on protection of rights to intellectual property. Domestically, protection of intellectual property law has also been established by government.........
I watched a guy on youtube just wrap a Quest around a pole. (with emphasis)
That might imply it failed to meet expectations?

FT sued for theft of IP. The IP was stolen. Had nothing to do with whether or not it was an "honest mistake". This is the USA, not China.

Sure, China has IP laws on the book. Putting a law on the books doesn't change a culture overnight. There's almost no enforcement of IP law in China, particularly if it's foreign IP that was stolen. The counterfeiters even copy each other.

And regarding the products, people will form their own opinions regarding those. Some will like them and some won't. There's no brand that hasn't been wrapped around a tree somewhere along the line.

I was not directly involved in the lawsuit, but heard quite a bit about it. Don't know Mr. Deng personally. The things I heard about him, in this situation where it would be easy to characterize him as a bad guy, were not of that character.

As far as I know, he's a decent chap. Even though he's a competitor, I wouldn't want to see him personally maligned. That's why I'm posting on this.

It looks to me like he’s on the right track now and has some decent products. Thanks Dave for some insight into this situation.

is one heck of a detector for the price, stability in mineralized soil, and decent depth. I would think the better models are great also.
