quattro

The X-terras are a simplified machine, turn on a go, but you still have to adjust them to the area you are digging. Quattros are just below the Excal's and equal to the Explorers. Completely different catagory of machines by the same company.

The Quattro is a user friendly detector using FBS multi-freq.(Explorer Based Tech.) and the X-terra is a modified single freq. VLF.

There are different things about each detector. Price, Weight, Balance, and Fun factor.

Long ago I used to do a little detecting and now am wanting to get back into it...Is the Quatro a good detector to start with???

Yes, yes, yes. If you can afford it, you won't be sorry. Even though it may look scary, don't let that defer you. It's not that bad. Just read the directions, get Andy Sabisch's book, Mastering the Quatro, and your well on your way to one of the best detectors in the world, I think. It has many automatic and no nonsense features as well as manual (possible) settings. You get the best of both worlds and I don't think you can find a better detector anywhere for an all around great detector. Read the other posts and I think you'll agree.

Hey, I appreciate the information, you just can't beat real-life experience. I'm going to buy one next week and let you know how it goes. Once again
Thanks...
