Anyone out there use the Quattro ? I live in Pa and was looking at the Quattro and a Garrett. No bashing please. I think all detectors are good in the hands of those who know how to use them. That said. Is it easy to use or will it take a years of schooling to run it ? And how is the depth on this detector ?</span>

I have no hands on with the Quattro so will read with interest the posts by those that have. I don't post much about detectors I have not used other than to ask a question or two. I agree 100% that there is no need for bashing. The reputation, finds, and forums pretty much speak for themselves as to the in the field effectiveness and quality of a detector.

just bought one a quattro havent used much yet but seems very user freindly wont take years to learn ..pretty much turn on and go ..biggest learning curve is learning what it is telling you

I don't own a quattro as my XS works just fine for me. I talk to many and have got the following feedback its user friendly, goes deep and we all know its not as expensive as the Explorer 11 model..
Of course for those that have the ability to master an Explorer it has many changeable facets to work in most areas. As far as Garrets go if you posted on the Garrett forum you would hear the same from longtime Garret users..Been around a while used many units and an Explorer just has the best guts of any unit I have ever used..I wish Mike would jump in as he owns a Quattro, very knowledgeable nice guy and perhaps could add further..

I got to use one for a while before freze up, had maybe 20 hour or so on it. I have used the Sovereign and the Explorer for years and tried many other detectors in my 32 years of detecting. I find I like the Minelabs for my seriuos coin hunting of older parks, or ones people think are cleaned out.
To be good with any detector there is a learning curve you have to master to get the full benifit out of the detector. The Sovereign was the easiest of the 3 Minelab I used, the Explorer a bit more to use and understand and you do need a little more patince with, but a great detector. The Quattro is not as easy as the Sovereign, but easier to understand as it has less controls to adjust or mis adjust. The Quattro was made for those that want to get in to the FBS detecting of the Explorer without all the adjustments. The Quattro does work a little differnt than the Explorer too and I find it will lock on to good targets better, but find being this is the case I found I had to recheck a good signal the second time to see it was a good target and not a false signals locking on as it seems to reset slower than the Explorer causing signals to lock on better and be heard better. I found that the pinpointing was also slightly slower to and after I took the coil away from the target I had to wait a couple of seconds before I hit the pinpoint button or after I hit it before going back over the target area. Some may not even notice this depending on how fast you pinpoint.
Depth with the Quattro is very good and very impressive how well it can lock on to those deep good targets.
Like the Sovereign, Explorer and the Quattro these detectors give you the info with the differnt tones and the meter reading so it let you decide if you want to dig or not and not let the detector tell you with a beep that it thinks you should dig it. This being the case you have to learn what to listen for which depending on how fast you can learn. I have seen some learn the Explorer or the Sovereign is as little as 4 hours while others spend a month or longer. Some of the reason is they take it out for a couple of hours a week at the most so they forget what they learned last time.
Bottom line the Quattro is a deep seeking detector, learning curve is easy for some, hard for others depending on how fast you learn. The controls are easy to understand once you see what they do and switching from one mode to the other to check out some targets is very easy and fast.
Like I said before for my seriuos coin hunting I find the Minelabs is the one that will get them which has been proven over and over again up here with those that have them in the areas that are considered cleaned out by the others.

Hiya Ted,
I have been using the Quattro now about two months and it is the easiest machine to understand i have ever used in 35 plus years detecting.
My other machine is the Elite.
The Quattro can be a switch on and go super deep seeking machine even at factory presets.
The new pinpoint graph is superb and spot on.
The tones/numbers are quite easy to learn and are very accurate, the depth indicator is fine for coin sized objects.
I have no weight/balance issues BUT you must use the armrest cuff to achieve good balance.
I strongly advise you use a good set of batteries as they do differ greatly
I use the Minelab 1800 NIMH Set and carry a back up as i tend to do all day hunts.
I have used all the major detector brands and IMHO
Minelab is supreme.
I used to swear by the Elite best machine until the Quattro came along.
I also have great respect for the Explorer two.
My tectin buddy uses one and we can both find the same items at optimum settings.
The Exp.two is a little deeper if you use a deepseeking programme and can use it!
Finally Quattro laughs at power line/electronic
interference and i can cover areas under power lines and at coastal radar sites that defeated my Elite.
Thats my thoughts.
Hope it was of some help.
HH from Wales.
