Is it possible to create and save a custom pattern that uses the ferrous tones?</STRONG>

Fred,
You have 4 modes of operation, the coin, coin and jewlery, relic and all metal. The coin and coin and jewelry modes use the conductivity tones while the relic and all metal use the ferrous tones. These mode are preset for the tones and cant be changed, but each one of these mode have a preset plus you can build anything you like in each one of these. So hear is where you can build the pattern you like and save it, if you want to use ferrous tone you build it in the relic or all metal mode, if you want the tones to be conductivity you build them in the coin or coin and jewlery mode. Each mode you can only build one pattern plus the preset in that mode. When you hit that mode button you have the preset, hit it again and you have your pattern. One thing I dont remember is if you are using a pattern you built and saved, swich to a differnt mode and come back to the first mode you were using is if it is the preset, then hit it again and it is the one you built, or is the one you were using and if you hit it again you go to preset. Either way it is fast and very easy to do. I set up a pattern in all metal to what I dont want and switch just back and forth between the preset and the one I built just by hitting the all metal button again.
If you dont have any pattern set up and saved in any of the modes and hit the same button again it will just give you a tone to let you know there is nothing there.
It is easier to use than the Explorer as switching modes are so fast, but yet you can do more with the setting of the Explorer for those that like to tinker.

Rick,
You can actually change the tones rather than be "stuck" in either Ferrous or Conductive as you get out of the box. Actually that is a trick that is not covered in the manual but one that I came across in the field trials and presented at the dealer seminar in Las Vegas in November. The new book covers this capability in an entire chapter. The engineers were a bit surprised but it is very effective.
As far as creating patterns, yes, you have 4 custom patterns that can be created and saved.
The photo shows my Quattro with the labels showing 4 custom patterns and different audio settings that I have loaded.
Hope this helps . . . let me know if I can answer any other questions.

I'm sure someone will pick up the fact that the photo shows a WHITE Quattro with a different composition legend under the screen . . . . . this is one of the pre-production units; i.e., before they went to the blue housing and enhanced meter legend.

Andy,
I am currious how you can get a differnt tone out of the Relic and all metal mode than what is there. I know you can set anyone of the 4 programs to accept or reject any target. I will be waiting to read your book when it is released as there is a few question I have on this unit.
I read your feild test in Lost Treasure today and it sounds like you did a very good job again on the feild test and wonder if you just have the proto type or a accual production one you use as I am wondering if there is a difference, or if anything was changed between them. I know many detector get changed after they been feild tested for the better when they are accualy built.

Rick,
I actually have 6 different Quattro's hanging up here ranging from the initial prototype to the final production units. The only reason I posted the photo I did is that is the one with the custom audio / discrimination patterns loaded and labeled. I ma hunting with the production unit and have been using the current version of software since late-October.
The book was checked against the production release machine before it went to the printer and there were a few changes that were needed.

I want to read some of your thoughts on the Quattro and the tips you have found and learned from experience with the Quattro. I have learned a few myself, but it is always nice to read of others a person may have over looked.
I was just curious if you had seen some things that were changed from the prototype veras what was put out to the public after you had tested it, see the color was one thing which was good as this blue is a nicer color.
Like I say I am looking forward to getting your book on the Quattro, plus spring getting here so I can use it again as I seen some things that impressed me and the Explorer user I was with that last day before the frezze up. This detector may be surprising a few once you learn it.
