Quattro or XT-70

Quattro or XT-70? I'm looking for a new MD with ID, mainly I hunt for coins at old sites.I know both are very good MD and would do a great job, but which one will perform better.

If you go to the beach then buy the Quattro as it is awesome there,the Quattro will be a bit deeper and but the terra 70 is much lighter and more pleasent to use,I am sticking with my Quattro.

Thanks for the reply James, Ive read all the field test on both MD and I believe Ill do more research before I buy.

Hello Bryan.....as a Minelab Dealer, and a long time user, as well as an electronic engineer, I have to tell you that the FBS (28 frequencies) that the Quattro generates for you will in the long run make you more productive and prolific with the good, and deeper finds. Yes, the X-Terra-70 allows the the choice of 3 different frequencies (coils) to tailor your output to the type of hunting you will do, but you have to buy the extra coils as you know. However, with the Quattro's FBS, you are always automatically being tailored for what ever lies beneath your coil. Yes the X-Terra-70 is lighter, and that would be it's only advantage is this two comparison. If you are going to spend your precious hunting time, energy, and effort walking miles, and bending down hundreds of times to dig, why not have the best you can afford working for you? The Quattro is one of the two best detectors money can buy....go with the Quattro my friend. Good luck and happy hunting.....Chuck@TreasureHut

Thanks Chuck this info helps a lot. Ive read that the 8" coil performs better than the 10.5" coil, any thoughts, and thank you for info.

Hello Chuck, any chance of the Quattro turning into an underwater detector? What a dream machine that would be! I wonder what Minelab's R&D department has in store for the near future!
HH Angela:)

Hello Bryan....bottom line, larger the coil, the deeper it sees, and the wider it scans! Draw backs, in trashy areas, some times the larger coil sees "too much" i.e. trash-trash-trash. Some like to use the smaller coil in that scenerio. I prefer to hunt with my 10.5" coil, 95% of the time. Like with any detector, learn what the machine is telling you...learn to speak the language, and the sky will be blue, and the sun will be shining. Learn the tones the Quattro sings to your ears, and your success ratio will climb dramatically. I only use the target ID as a confirmation of what my mind has deduced from the sounds. The Quattro needs to be swept a little slower than many, to give it time to recover from bad (nulling out) to good, pure, clean audio tones on the keepers. The larger the coil you use, the slower you need to sweep it. You will be very hard pressed to find a better machine though.....and you can take that to the coin bank!

For 300.00 it can be waterproofed. The kits are availible for a forum visitor. I am having it done to my Explorer II.

If you want more information on the website PM me.

Hey Joe.....are you a SCUBA diver? Are you talking about waterproofing a detector to dive depth pressures, or just water proofing in case you drop in in the water while you are wading??? There is a big difference there!!!
Chuck@TreasureHut

No, I will use it for beach, and in water hunting. Not diving. Maker is not sure of the pressure that the housing can take.

It is a pure advantage lake hunting...I will leave the coins and only dig the jewlery.

Quattro will deliver a deeper more pronounced signal on your High Conductors.

The X-Terra 70 with its new 3kHz loop will come close to the Quattro performance on silver coinage.

The Quattro will not see the finer gold/platinum jewelry. The X-Terra 70 with the 18.5 kHz Loop Will.

For versatility on LOW and HIGH Conductors, go with the X-Terra 70 which also offers a prospecting mode, which can also be for those ultra deep targets.

Thanks interesting Greg. I have an aquaintance who bought the X Terra 70, and his wife who has the Quattro, says, it seems to go as deep as the Quattro from her perspective. They've only had both machines a short time, but it made me prick my ears up, as I'm looking for a detector for my son. Unfortunately, they're a bit more expensive here in Australia, than in the states. And Minelab makes them here! How do you figure?!
Cheers Angela:twodetecting::)

Hi again Greg, don't know what happened in my post, but I must have used a word the computer program replaced with other digits! I promise to everyone, I didn't swear!!! Had me going there for a sec.....
Cheers Angela:shrug::)
