Quattro best coil for beach? X12.5 or 15" Wot

I have the 12.5 and use it with my Explorer II, previously with my Quattro. I had a 12.5 on my Sovereign Elite when I had that. Loved it. It's big and covers the ground a lot better, yet pinpoints well and isn't heavy. I believe as you go bigger, the pinpointing is less spot-on and the weight becomes an issue. So IMO, the 12.5 is just right. I have not use a WOT but I have tried a machine with one (Sovereign) and didn't think I would like the weight and bulk of it. Many swear by them. If weight is an issue, go with the 12.5 because it's about the same as the 1050 BBS. If you currently swing the Quattro for hours on end with ease, maybe try the WOT.

That's interesting Mike. I keep forgetting about the weight issue, but it's a real issue to think about. I'm thinking of getting a 14" excellerator from Kellyco, hopefully for some extra depth and coverage powere, but, wondering if I'll really get the depth and will I hate myself for any extra weight or ballance issues? Also, hoping the 14 would still pick up coins and smaller items?

The advice I always give on big coils is leave them alone until you master your machine with the stock coil. Once you feel you can say that, a bigger coil is a definite help to the beach hunter because that increased coverage can help you get that one killer ring find you might have otherwise missed. And there may be a slight depth increase but that is very often WAY overblown. The number one benefit is COVERAGE, not depth. And the bigger the coil, the tougher it usually is to pinpoint with. And yes, they will still hit on coins and smaller items.

I have a 15" WOT on my Quattro, and don't see much difference in depth than the stock 10 1/2" coil, but as Mike said the coverage is great. I can cover so much more area with it! Pinpointing can be a little tricky at first, but if you can pinpoint good with the stock coil it won't take long to figure the WOT. I'm glad I got it!
