quattro and gold hunting ?

Hi.
Getting back into metal detecting after a 10 year lay off. Always used Fisher going back to the 1220 model and finishing with the CZ'S. Big war of 1812 relic hunter and have done well hunting for these relics.
I like what I see as far as the Quatro and the mutiple frequencies. I don't thik it would be very good for competition hunting because of the slower reset but thats not what I'm going to be doing alot of. Relic mostly and some coin shooting a bit. I Want to do some gold prospecting in Quebec and was wondering if they will have a coil coming out soon that is in the 1600-1800 khz range?

Thanks for taking time to read this.

are you asking if the Quattro will find gold? Is that what you're intending to use it for? I've swiped my nuggets under the coil to give me varried readings, but detecting nuggets underground is a little different. If the nuggets were close to the surface, then I see no read why the Quattro wouldn't pick them up, if the nuggets are reasonably sixed. If they are tiny, might be a different story. Keep in mind that the Quattro is specifically a relic machine, and though it will pick up gold jewelry and gold coins, because of the make-up of nuggets, it may react differently. The nuggets here are often mixed with iron ore and quartz, and can be unreadable when underground. I haven't found a nuggets yet below surface, but I also may not be where the nuggets are. As they say, gold is where you find it!:detecting::)

Apparently Minelab makes some of the best "gold detectors" around, but they're pretty pricy. From what I've read, nuggets, small or large seem to be another ballgame, so to speak. I guess you're dealing with hot rocks, bad ground conditions, etc, and I think the "gold specific" detectors are able to deal with that stuff. I'm not sure if the Quatro can find nuggets or not.??? Maybe you can "test scan" some nuggets and if you have the opportunity, bury them and see if you can find them. My only fear is, if you bury them and (couldn't find them) they would be lost, so be careful.

It isn't perfect, but I put a flake in one vial. Then 2 in another then 3 and then a small nugget. When you bury the vials, you won't lose them.

Hi,
I went and bought a terra 50 which came with a 18.75 khz coil. Good for gold and tiny jewerly. I tested it on some very small flakes with postive response on all. Will be testing it in late April way up north to a good friends claim.

Thanks for doing test . Jerry
