Quantum XT

Can anyone help me out, I purchased a quantum XT about ten years ago in the hope of finding some lost jewelry after a pool party.
(found it all by the way) and have not used the detector since. Suddenly my daughter is frantic to start metal detecting so I tried to power up the old girl and she will only power up randomly and the display only shows a solid line and not the graduated readout it used to show. I have tried different batteries and different brands but to no avail. Any clues please? if it needs to go back to the manufacturer where do i send it?

if the battery pack had any sighn of corrosion from leaking batteries, I would try a new battery pack and reach in and lightly pull out on the contacts inside the detector case. you never said if you left the batteries in it for 10 years.

Give you my experience. Have a Silver Eagle..circa 1994. Kept in my closet for a few years unused. No batteries were left in it. Powered it up one day. Nothing on LCD. But the unit would detect coins in audio. Did some research. Found out (internet reading, so take it for what its worth) that some of the older model White's LCD screens had a bad habit of dying after a few years.....even when put in storage.....some manufacturer defect. They changed suppliers, so not a issue with newer models. Sent mine in (2 yrs ago). Cost was $75.00 + shipping. They also thoroughly checked it out and replaced the touchpads. Did a excellent job. White's always makes it right. I recommend sending it to the factory in Sweet Home, Oregon even if the shipping costs a little more. Good Luck.

Definitely, give the Whites factory (in Sweet Home, Or.) a call first then send it in. Rest assured, they WILL take care of you and you'll basically get a brand new detector back at minimal expense . . you'll be very pleasantly surprised.

No batteries left in, I am coming to the conclusion that the display has failed or the mother board is bad.

Thanks for the help

That is the conclusion I have come to. At this point I will send it to Whites to do what they do best as i have only read or heard great things about the service received.

Thanks for your help

I just sold a QXT Pro that I owned for about a year and a half...One heck of a deep seeking coin magnet...Love the audio as well...
