Quantum 2 Questions.

I recently picked up a Quantum 2 ( New old stock) and have a couple of questions.
Why does it not id dimes or quarters? It has the stock 7.8 coil on it and it reads dimes as zinc pennies and quarters as dollars..
What would the best coil be for it? I have the blue max 600 and 800 on there way to me
And what kind of dept can i expect out of it. So far i am not impressed with it but it will work for tot lots.Thank you
Shawn

The 950 coil is much deeper than the 800, by the way your 7.8 is the 800 coil. I owned an 800 for a while and saw no real need for it and sold it, The 600 and 950 are the better two, and the 4 inch is real nice in the real trashy areas. I have had two of the Quantum XT's but I have never used the II, but can promise you my info on the coils is true. I had a QXT stolen from my truck with the six inch on and the 950 locked in the tool box, so I have 2 950 coils in perfect condition. If I can help you out with one let me know. A 950 coil is 2-3 inches deeper on a dime that the 800.

Yea, I'd use the 9.5". The separation will still be excellent since this machine is so fast. In fact, I found little improvement using the 5.3" because it's so fast, but that little coil will hit harder on gold chains and such. You can send that machine into Whites and have them update the software and it will become a QXT after doing that with more useful features. Dimes should read in the COIN zone as well as all other coins above it (quarters, silver, etc). Zinc pennies will mostly stay in that zone. Copper pennies like wheats will bounce between that and the coin zone some. Great deep machine once you learn how to use it. Dig up my old threads on here as well as my tip's page on JB's website. Do not use tracking, though. I changed my opinion on that. That machine updated to a QXT and using the 9.5" coil will out do any Whites (current or past) using the same size coil in terms of depth on copper or silver coins IMHO.

I thank both of you for the info..
I called whites last week and asked about the upgrade and was told they don't do that, but i just placed another call into them and i am waiting on a return call to verify it..

I think a QII can be upgraded in software to be a QXT, as I remember somebody doing that and they are both the same machine, only the QII comes with the 8" coil. With things like Noise reduction being able to be turned OFF on the QXT you'll get even deeper. Older QXT's had a problem with the ground balancing software. You can tell by if zone 7 says "COINS" or if it says "1cent to $1" (or something similar). I sent one in with the older software as it had problems balancing in very bad ground and it was updated. Many people at first had complaints that the QXT wouldn't ground balance in some bad minerals. The newer software fixed that. I think I even heard they send you stickers with the software update that say "QXT Pro" to put on it. A QXT Pro is the same exact machine. However, a few QXT Pros I owned would allow sensitivity to be set at 18 at most sites instead of 16, which made it a tad deeper/hotter. I believe this was due to better electronic components in those newer units which had a little less circuit noise.
