quantifying mineral content in soil

One reason I bought a gt was for it's ability to handle "mineralized" soil/sand. Now I would like to know more about what is meant by "mineralized". I am thinking iron and salt are the two biggies but are there other minerals that come into play? And is it possible to quantify the soil/sand on a scale from 1 to 10 ? It would be nice to be able to "label" soil according to it's "mineralization" characteristics. I call the easy, white, dry, sandy beaches a 1 and some of the black, wet, sludge, bay beaches as 10 and everything else somewhere in between, but there has to be a more precise and universal unit of measurement.
As always, I much appreciate any input,
Cheers,
Jim
