Last weekend, I went over to a nearby lake, on the county park side, and could see that the beach across the lake (small lake), on the State Park side, was BUSY! I made a mental note to search that beach on my next opportunity. Today was that day. I hit the water this morning to get a jump-start on the Holiday weekend finds.
I don't know what it is about me and TH'ing. Sometimes, it just seems that I get to a spot, GB my CZ, start hunting, and am somehow, beyond my knowledge, I am led to a nice goodie. It's happened many times, both water and land hunting. Today was no exception. I get to the beach, walk into the water, GB, and start hunting, in a line straight out to a buoy. I get near the buoy, in water up to my nose, and turn around. On the next lane back, within feet of turning around, I get a loud yelp through the headphones. Flipping to 0 Disc gives me a strong mid-tone on my CZ-20. I pinpoint, and scoop, to see this shining back at me:

Yeehaa! My first water gold of this year! I couldn't quite make out the marking inside, but I knew I'd figure out what it was when I got home and cleaned it up.
I spent three hours at that beach, and my only other jewelry was this earring:
<center> <img src=http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4302/20050703earring0dq.jpg> </center> <p>
It's unmarked, but gave a strong mid-tone. I have no idea what it is, but I believe it's plated.
I went off to a different beach, a few miles from the one I had been at. I've pulled gold, silver, lots of clad, and lots of sinkers from this small beach. I get into the water, and start hunting. I had only been at it maybe 20 minutes, when this found it's way into my scoop:

Yes! #2! This is a really nice Mother's ring, with seven stones.
I continued working my pattern, while doing some quick mental calculations. I found a gold class ring earlier this spring. Plus, the two today, make three pieces of gold for the year. I set a goal of 5, since I only found 4 last year. I was thinking I might be able to accomplish that goal later this month. While I was thinking all this over, I got a loud scream through my CZ-20's headphones. Switching to 0 Disc gave a high tone. Ok, another quarter! I've been finding lots lately. Imagine my surprise when I saw this in my scoop:
<center> <img src=http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8539/20050703goldring31an.jpg> </center> <p>
OMG! I guess it rang in as a Zinc Cent. I only assumed it was a quarter from the volume and pitch of the auto-tune and 0-disc signals that I received when I passed over it. I haven't sized it, yet, but it's huge! I got out the honker I found last year, and put them together, and the one I found today is a little smaller, probably a size 11.
Shortly after that honker was recovered, I got another signal. Thinking I had a pulltab, I recovered this:
<center> <img src=http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/3823/20050703goldring46ew.jpg> </center> <p>
It's small, but 10K, with a white-gold setting and a small diamond chip.
Suddenly, I realized I had found 4 gold rings in one day, and added in with the one I found this spring, I have accomplished my goal of finding 5 gold pieces this year. The rest of this year is gravy!
After finding the last gold ring, I got another weird signal. It gave me all three tones, and being in really shallow water, I figured it was a bottlecap. I was surprised to see a really corroded, dull-grey ring with a broken band in my scoop. I immediately thought I had found another crusty, corroded, OLD silver ring like the one I found a couple weeks ago on the same beach, in the same general area (I guess I need to pound this spot). When I got home, I pulled out my little electrolysis tank, hooked it up, and "cooked" this ring for a bit. It gave me that same rotten-egg hydrogen sulfide stink that the previous one did. However, I was unable to see a marking. The last silver ring I found like this had a marking that was more etched than stamped into the silver. I'm thinking this one is the same way, except the etching has corroded away, or I "cooked" it away.

I did manage to get over $3 in clad, several sinkers, and the usual trash.
