The last time I went detecting (last Saturday) I decided to hunt in all metal with my F4. I always hunt in discriminate but I had the extra time so I thought I would try it out in all metal. What puzzles me is that a couple of targets that registered under iron on the tid were coins (penny's I believe). Why would a coin register at iron. Thanks! Steve.

is it possible because of the depth of the coin? about how deep was it? i thought the f4 was supposed to give a higher reading on deep coins.

1943 pennies were zinc coated steel .You may have found a couple of these ,The zinc coating did not last long when buried.
