Puzzeled about Sea HUnter Mark II ??????

Salida

New member
I decided to check out the YouTuvbe videos watching the Sea Hunter
vs the Ace 250 on the beach. I have never done any beach hunting on
the East or West coast

The footage shows you can select out pull tabs and bottle caps and a lot of
other junk. While the Sea Hunter found most targets it was not able to find a 10K small gold ring.

The Ace 250 on the other hand did not notch out anything but DUG EVERYTHING, it
did find a few rings and impressive amout of pull tabs and bottle caps.

I guess I am left wondering if I am better off just using my Ace 250 when I DO get to
the West coast and forget about buying the the Sea Hunter. To me that seems
logical.

I could really use your experience here:
Question 1....
Why should I use the Sea HUnter Mark II and
not the Ace on the beaches. I do not swim so diving is out. The Ace 250 seemed to preform ok
in wet water by turning the sensitivity down.

Question 2....SInce it is good on dry sand wnat about the Sea Hunter on dry land as well, like
an ocassional park or two, say if Imy Ace was in for repair.

Question 3....What ever happened to DIG EVERYTHING? If I'm going to dig everything whats the point of the Sea Hunter?

Thanks

I have a copy of the Garrett Metal Detector's buyer guide and on page 38 (of 40) they have a Hunting/Application Guide for all their models.
You can compare the ACE 250 vs the Sea Hunter for 10 different Applications: Coin Hunting, Jewelry Hunting, Relic Hunting, Cache Hunting, Prospecting, Ghost Town Hunting, Competition Events, Dry Beach/Fresh Water Hunting, Surf Hunting and Treasure Diving.
You may be able to see this @ www.garrett.com

Your right, the 250 is a GREAT machine for the price and I wouldn't touch the Sea Hunter. If you notch out pull tabs you will be notching out some gold rings. Digging in the sand is just scooping it up and shaking it out. So you dig lots and lots of pull tabs and bottle tops, so what? the beach will be much cleaner, you are getting exercise and you will be rewarded every 100 - 1000 tabs with a gold ring. If you have seen my pictures I find hundreds of tabs and tops every time I go to one spot. I don't mind at all. I know I will find gold. The only drawback is it uses my air!

Some people dig everything and I am one of them who does dig everything ABOVE iron. Others cherry pick and sure they get good stuff BUT they leave rings and chains behind also. In one spot I ignore a lot of mid-tones ONLY because the spot is so full of shotgun shell bottoms its crazy, HOWEVER I hit it over and over and over again and will get them all sooner or later. I still haven't found a gold ring in the spot. Have I ignored one? Possibly. One day I will hit it again and dig it. I am one of two people that hit this spot.

Only you can decide what type of hunter you are. One that digs everything and loves the occasional surprise, or one that just gets coins and some rings. I love the surprises!!

It sounds like the only reason to buy the Sea Hunter is if you dive
or if you want greater depth. Am I wrong? I have the 9x12 ace coil but I wonder how much more depth
I would get vs. the Ace on wet or dry sand if I stay in all metal? I don't see the point of having the PI
if my Ace will do the job.

The sea hunter will outperform the Ace depthwise....period. Why would you want to use disc on the beach, did everything. Get in wet salt sand and the Ace will not get the depth of the sea hunter.....The serious beach hunter looking for gold rings will use the sea hunter in the wet sand and water........HH

John sums it up perfectly. The Sea Hunter is the tool of choice for wet sand and salt water.
If you are serious about getting the deep gold rings then leave the Ace for the dry sand.
I am a pure water / wet sand hunter (15 years) and about 1000 hours per year in this environment.
The Sea Hunter MKII is one of two detectors I use and I have used many different machines before them.

I bought a Sea Hunter Mark II this summer and have not used my Fisher CZ 70 Pro since i bought the Sea Hunter....I love to detect beaches and digging everything is the only way to go for me.....I have never used an Ace 250 but I would bet that it will never

go as deep as my Sea Hunter...in the dry sand it is great...I have found 2 diamond ladies rings, 1 mans wedding ring and several cheap rings along with about 10 million cheap ear rings (joke) in the dry sand, pull tabs, bottle tops , and just today I fould

24 small tent stakes....all in all the Sea Hunter is an excellent beach detector...and to tell you how sensitive it is...I found a wire that looked like Piano wire about 8 inches long and about 8 inches deep in the water...it was straight ( not bent) and very thin...

Pretty good for a machine you say will not detect a small ring...Love my Mark II

Good Luck,

Elton

Hi Elton:

It seems that the only way to get greater depth with the Ace is to use a larger coil.

I suspect another reason to use a PI is if one hits some nasty mineralized beach. The Ace would be
really challenged in a mess like that.

One YouTube video showed not being able to find a 10k gold ring with the Sea Hunter because rather than DIGGING
EVERYTHING they were discriminging things out. Thats why I asked "WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO
DIGGING EVERYTHING." ????

My experience with detectors is confined to Whites IDX PRo, MXT and the Ace 250: I have NEVER used a PI.

QUESTION: When do you Mark II users use the discrimination settings if your going to dig everything anyway.
What is the point of that...unless you just happen to like that option and don't mind that you might miss something?

QUESTION: Have you every used the Mark II on land for Parks and Prospecting vs. the Infinity?

Salida, the disc on the Sea Hunter to me is a joke, don't know why Garrett even bothered with that. I only use the standard mode and never the so called discrete mode. Try using the discrete mode and see what the targets sound like, very, very weak. Yes, it will disc out certain objects but I don't disc out anything except for iron with my Excal. With the Sea Hunter I dig everything.......only use standard mode. HH
