Put your rubber toggle boots on....

JimmyCT

Well-known member
In my mail today, I had a package from Mouser Electronics. All that I can say is shipping was bullet fast to my front door. Inside were four rubber toggle boots for my GT. I should of done this as soon as I bought my machine and glad I finally have it done before a piece of dirt took out one of my switches.

Now, if I can install these, anyone can lol. Very easy to complete the operation and for $12.56 ($3.14 each at the time of this writing 8-11-11) plus shipping by usps, it is a winning combo!

don't wait to do this if you don't have boots for your toggle switches. A relatively cheap investment for worry free operation. I do not edorse Mouser Electronics nor do I have an affiliation with the company. I merely saw another user here on the forum, (Magyar) talking about how he had them installed on his detector. THANK YOU MAGYAR!

One thing I did to make them glide right on and not have the toggles turn - take a toothpick and dip it in vaseline and very LIGHTLY touch the inside threads on the boot. You don't even have to coat or cover - just a smidge, a speck if you will. Then the boots will glide right on and be snug. I first installed them by turning them with my fingers. Then very gently with a pair of needle nose pliers, turn the nut on the boot and snug it. Your done. I had all four done in about ten minutes. Definitely worth the investment.

Thanks for looking and feel free to hit me with questions. - Jim

Jim glad to see you got the boots, and you got a very good deal , you do great research , by the way if i find that treasure you helped with researching I will remember you , now get down in the dirt and dig out those coins . Gunnar

Thank you for the compliment Gunnar. Part of my job is investigating and I love to do it :) I truly hope you find that treasure Gunnar. Yep, the boots are just the ticket and will keep my detector running like a million bucks and hopefully, it will help me find it too.
I am digging those coins as fast as I can find them lol - Jim

I got the same boots as you on my Sovereign and they work great.
I actually had the boots before I got the detector due to having to wait until the meter came in to ship everything together.
I think they are a must if you hip mount the box and although I do not use this method, I still think they are cheap insurance.
Thanks for posting!!

Good post. Only thing I would add is to flip the box upside down and flip the switches back and fourth and blow some air into the switches to remove any dirt particles before putting the boots on.

Hey Critter,
Yes, I did do that, but in all common sense, just didn't think I needed to insert this info.

Yes, insert this step BEFORE installing the boots. :) HH

Thanks Critter

Thanks for doing the research on where to purchase the toggle switch boots. I was searching the web and I had difficulty locating them and when I did locate some I wasn't sure if they were for the older Sovereigns or the newer GT. I just ordered mine from Mouser. :)

Your welcome - HH - Jim aka super dimeman

Does anybody know if this will interfere with Minelab warranty? Some companies are sensitive to covering devices that have been modified even though its an improvement and non invasive. If this topic hasn't been broached before I can contact Minelab myself for the info.
Thanks, Randy

I HATE the fact you have to add these aftermarket to keep the detector sound...part of the reason I sold my sovereign and now use my excal.....

Hi Neil,
they are well worth the investment to keep the GT runnin' for years to come. HH - Jim aka super dimeman

Thank you Jim. I just ordered those boots. Now I will be using the GT even more and with a load off the mind while using it.

Good looking boots I like them, ours are slightly different but do the protection needed.

If anyone have an interest in trying a pair of wireless headphones,................. they work a treat.
