Put the 10.5 coil on the Edge yesterday to hunt a site and had

some remarkable results from such a large coil in iron trash. No mind you it wasnt super dence trash since i had gotten most of the big iron out of there already but there was a scattering of nails and odd bits of iron.Didnt find nothing earth shattering. but what I did find was I could run the edge hotter on sens ? why I dont know I stayed around 9 all day and occasionally slid it up to 10 and it did'nt false hardly at all on the nails like the 8 inch does. and it has an uncanny ability to still separate as good or better than the 8 inch? (still up for debate on this). It wont separate like the 5.75 but how could it. But I believe it might do as well as the 8 plus get more punch.( More punch for sure)

Heres my take on the coils for the Edge.Remember I have just one day with the 10.5.

The 5.75 is the best in dense trash plus no more +/- 36 falses on deep nails.( I believe it does this because it's not seeing the deeper iron?)

The 8 inch has good depth but does false some on the deep iron but it easily Identified with a couple extra sweeps.Separates great for an 8 inch.( good general purpose coil)

The 10.5 has at least 2-3 inches more depth than the 8 inch retains the tight separation of the 8 maybe not quite but close need to experiment more but hardly any falsing on deep nails.( I believe it actually gets a better look on the deeper nails for more accurate I.D.? Again just speculation.)

One scenario is .The nail High tone falses in my area seem to be the ones that are about 10-12 inches deep.the ones the plows plowed under decades ago.The 5.75 just cant see them that deep and the 8 is just barely reading them and high toning them the 10.5 is reading them like the other coils read the shallower nails with a perfect I.D.

Another scenario is the 5.75 coil and the 10.5 coil look at the target different than the 8 inch does?

I belive that elliptical center on the 10.5 is doing something that the 8 dosent?

Need some more experimenting

Any thoughts..Any ideas .... Man yall gotta give that big coil a try if you have one.If you dont kellyco has them on clearance cheap!!! Gotta make it part of your arsenal.

Would like some feedback on the 10.5.

thanks

i have the 10.5 coil for my edge and you will fine it to be a great coil as it will get deep targets in with the trash,i use mine in the water wading as i can cover more
area in a little less time,it will read alittle high on i.d. on mine but hits the nail on the head for depth

The 10.5" elliptical concentric coil is less sensitive to small bits of iron, so you should get better iron "see thru" with it vs. the stock 8" coil in moderate iron.

That of course begs the question - If it's less sensitive to small bits of iron, how does it fair on small bits of jewelery vs. the stock 8" coil ?

Deerman I know your a jewelery hunter, do you think there's much difference in sensitivity to small gold targets between the 8" and 10.5" coils ?

The 10.5" design also makes it more sensitive to coins on edge.

Thanks for the info on the coil performance Brian! Does the elliptical receive or transmit ?Great coil real powerful..

Thanks

Here's a quote from Jackpine on the 10.5" coil:

Actually the center ellipse is the receive coil. the shape is unique for sure and has its advantages. The first CZ-5 I had came with that coil and I used it exclusively for many months before getting the 8"'er. Its not that hard to work with if you hip mount the control box and I could hunt all day with it despite the weight.

The main advantage in my opinion is that since the field shape of a coil is actually dependent on the targets under the coil at any given time (as opposed to the generally accepted notion of a transmitted field being blade shaped for a DD or cone/bowel shaped for a concentric) this design gives the coil a unique look at co-located targets and coins "on-edge" that other coils may miss. Whether you hunt with a concentric, a DD, or this one they should all find targets the others miss.

Just another tool for the arsenal and a darn good one at that.

I had my edge for a year before I got the 10.5 coil, my finds were good but after I got the bigger coil I'm starting to get a nice collection. My friends told me not to get the bigger coil that I would lose my sensitivity on small objects but that's not true for sure. I hunt the sites that I thought were hunted out and I'm getting a lot of deep small buttons, musket balls, and half reales and dimes that I get tired digging there so deep lol. Its a great machine, my wife asked if I wanted a new machine for Christmas and I said no I couldn't ask for one any better just more time to go. HH!
