Put some pressure on Tesoro for...

As we know Tesoro makes some of the very best metal detectors available and that is why I am asking to make them better. I just wish Tesoro would put Auto Trac(called Super TRAQ on the Lobo ST which they already have this technology on) on the Tiger Shark, Vaquero, and Tejon and get rid of the Manual Ground Balance knob. It would make these machines MUCH more desirable to buy and I would buy a Tiger Shark with Super TRAQ as soon as possible if it was available.... but we might put some pressure on them by phoning and writing letters to Tesoro to add this Super TRAQ(true automatic ground balacing) feature on these machines in the future and I will start buy doing this....thanks.

(P.S. Some people may want this feature added on the Cortes also.)

I basically agree with you, but would also like to see an owner/user adjustable GB to allow fairly reasonable tweaking on the preset models. I have an older White's Classic III coinmaster that has a pot under a small plug that can be reached with a small screwdriver. Makes it possible to get closer to a balance without having to send it in with a soil sample.

I like the manual ground balance better than auto. I like having control on how my machine is balanced. nugget hunting , I like to set it a little positive. Adding auto gb also make them more expensive.

There are some things that would need to be changed if Tesoro went with the LST auto ground balance on other Tesoro models. It should have the means to offset, or adjust, the ground balance as the LST "Auto Traq" won't ground balance correctly in all ground conditions. The LST I had ground balanced too positive in my mild ground in all metal mode, it wasn't too bad off but there was no way to adjust for it which resulted in losing depth. The auto balance would also have to affect both the all metal and discrimination modes. The LST auto balance only affects the all metal mode, the ground balance in disc mode is preset and on the one I had it was set way too positive for my ground. That resulted in a substantial loss in depth, especially on higher conductive targets. A better choice would be the ground balance setup George Payne used on the Goldtrax and Cointrax Treasure Barons. Both have full auto ground balance with inhibit control, which prevents the ground balance from tracking to - trying to ground balance to - inground targets, especially iron, which the auto balance on the LST I had would sometimes do. Both have the ability to adjust the auto ground balance tracking speed from not tracking at all to super fast tracking , both have the means to offset the balance to get it correct if they don't balance properly and the auto balance on both can be turned off and they can be manually ground balanced. I have both a Goldtrax and a Cointrax and the ground balance capabilities in auto balance mode cover just about any ground conditions anyone would be likely to encounter, but like most old timers I still prefer manual balance.

Actually, the lineup is rather appropriate.

Compadre
Silver U
Vaquero
Tejon

IMO, the problem lies with display comparison to other machines.

Tesoro has been strong on quality audio ID, and visual ID drove up cost too much.

Difficult to compete with an Ace 250, or an XLT, for example.

I'd like to see the Golden U with ground balance.

I was dismayed at the switch to a 9v battery, but the new circuits are very efficient, and battery life is excellent.

Tesoro coil selection is excellent.

Hard to beat something that's not broke!

THANK YOU ALL! Yes the auto balance can backfire and it is not needed to hunt on grass, sod, and turf, yes no point. Manual is the best for this BUT auto balance is best for mineralized ground for me. Way too time coinsuming to manual balance for gold for me as I have done it on my Gold Bug, Compass Gold Scanner, and SD 2100 for gold, too much fiddling for me as the ground changes. I am a gold prospector and thought the addition of the auto GB is what I want in a Tiger Shark waterproof machine as well as an auto GB on a Vaquero because it is so very lightweight (2.2 lbs.). Maybe both manual and auto. BUT as JB(MS) said yes BOTH manual and auto on the same machine is the best. I have never heard of Treasure Baron Goldtrax?? So I did a search and here is your post and a website.

Wow, looks good. ARE THE TREASURE BARONS (GOLDTRAX--COINTRAX) STILL AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ?? Are they still being made and where can a person buy them for how much ??

Thank you in advance!

Maybe one of the reasons the Vaquero ( my favorite detector ) is so lite ( 2.2#) is because it dosn't have auto G.B. The Lobo is bigger and heavier. I would rather have a ten turn manual G.B.
