Pure white and a little pinky too.

Took Ken to the beach this afternoon and we both had a good time digging in the sand. Both used Ace 150's.
His result, including and above the pepper and also the big sinker.
262 yen in coins (about US$2.20)

Got back home and was looking more closely at the silver ring I got, using a loupe. It has PURE WHITE, 925 stamped inside. I put it down to look at other things. Ken had a look and noticed that on the outside it has a very small diamond. I took another look with the loupe and sure enough, after cleaning away the dirt, it does. Said to him that he has great eyesight to spot that! Then he has another look and says that it is a pink diamond. I had another look (again with the loupe) and it is! We were all laughing about whose eyes are the best. Certainly not mine. :)

With that info I had a quick search on the Japanese side of the Internet and came up with a matching ring, yes, pink diamond and all. :)
They go for 10,500 yen (around US$85).
The Internet sure is a great and fast way to find out more about things we dig up.

587 yen in coins for me (around US$4.90)

Ian and Ken (trying to hold up the sun) @ the land of the rising rings and things. :)

Have a look again at the size of the little nut in your goody pile. Them Garretts have a pesky habit: being real good at finding tiny little items.

Its fantastic when you can actually track down an item you find and get a desciption and price as well.
I never found a dental crown before.... would that be silver?
You must also have an excellent selection of sinkers as well.
Ken sure does have an eagle eye I never would have noticed that...WTG !:super:

Cheers!

the first thing he said was, "That is gold nugget size!"
At eleven years old he's already had some experiences that most adults haven't e.g. pic of him hibanking in New Zealand.

like most Japanese had never heard of metal detecting as a hobby, until I bought a detector that is. :)
Next year I want to give her a metal detector (maybe a 250) and make it a family hobby. That would be the ultimate I reckon. She has tried a couple of times and seems to enjoy it. She doesn't mind me getting out there and doing it. Part of the reason (and a very real reason too) I do is the exercise, my job often involves too much sitting e.g. computing. The goodies are a welcome bonus. Cleaning up the trash, especially sharp things, gives me satisfaction too. ;)

I wondered about that. Detecting is not unknown elsewhere, but is surely not as well known as it is in the US and Britain

Yeah I would like it if Lori wanted to do it, too, but it's unlikely. It takes a certain perseverence against the odds and the desire to spend inner-time alone, plus some degree of "gadgetiness". She doesn't really possess all of these and has little interest in the hobby, although makes little beef if I do it (unless I turn her into a detecting widow!)

All good reasons for pursuing the hobby. The exercise is a little mild for my tastes, however I work nights these days and find I have little energy for strenuous activity. I certainly enjoy seeing the things you find. Thanks for your response.

I've found a couple of crowns - both gold. One was found years ago while I was field testing a gold detector. You never know what you'll uncover in this hobby.

he says almost all the metal dental crowns in Japan are a mix of silver, palladium, and a very tiny amount of gold. So, Garrett will need to add a palladium mode next.
