Purchase CTX 3030

The Wooz

New member
Hello Everyone,
I have been reading about the CTX 3030 on line and I came upon your site. It seems that a lot of people here like the machine but others don't so I am asking for some input to the good and the ugly of the machine since I have not purchased a machine in about 20 years. I detected heavily since 1978 to the early 90's and even did some scuba diving detecting in the U.S. & Virgin Islands but back then it was mainly whites and fisher machines so the CTX 3030 is like a new generation machine so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wooz

Alot of the people who dont like the machine either cant afford it, or havent given it enough time. Look at it like this,
you can get an amazing land and water machine for less money than two other machines combined. If you do splurge,
watch as many videos on youtube as you can, read ALL the posts here and in the classroom, and be patient. You wont
be an experienced user overnight. Only time and perseverence will make you be successful.

I have several detectors and thought I was pretty good with them and with technology. Then I got a CTX. My hunting buddies all have or had E-trac experience and one of them is really really good with an E-trac. We all purchased the CTX as soon as our dealer got them. Like I said, I thought I was good with technology but for me learning the CTX has (and still is at times) a long road to travel. So if you get frustrated easily or do not have the time and effort to invest in learning one of "the most advanced machines" (my opinion) then got something like a AT Pro or something. But if you are up and ready for a challenge the CTX is for you. Just take your time with it, read EVERYTHING you can about it (the instruction manual is more of a "description" manual in that it tells you what the functions are). But without the risk there is little reward. I am glad I have mine.

Feel free to give me a ring Wooz! I have many hours experience on my Minelab CTX 3030 and can answer all your questions. Explain a few different setups to get you going right out of the box. Not to mention give you a great Find Mall deal! ;)

Having had a coinmaster 6000 pro, an Excalibur, and still having an E-trac and a CTX, I urge you to listen to what some of these folks are saying. It is a computer, with hundreds of variations and settings and it is a learning curve! Also, talk to some of the fellos on heer like Bart above, and make sure you coer the small coil and big coil issues. Let him know what type areas you will hunt: mostly neighborhood parks, beach salt and fresh, open farm land, old homesteads, demolition sites, etc., all have a bearing on what to get and what settings to use.

After about 6 months of the CTX I can say that the E-trac is carried along in the truck but I use the CTX exclusively and switch coils. It is a GREAT machine!!

I too have used a Whites machine, starting with one of the first Coinmasters, then a Prizm 5, then a M-6 and then a DFX-300. I have since sold the DFX, bought the CTX and kept the M-6 for a back-up, but from what I am seeing, I will probably never use anything again other than a Minelab CTX. Before purchasing it, I had been looking at a water machine, possibly a Excal. II, but now I have both, water and land machine. Grant you, there is quite a learning curve, but I had Bart as my dealer, and he had me using it right out of the box, by providing some simple instruction, by phone and I continue to learn and love it more every day. I have already found more older and more silver coins than ever before with other machines. I just ordered a CTX-6 inch coil for the tot lots and trashy areas and am in the process of learning the GPS functions on the CTX. Go for it, if you can and I don't think that you will ever regret it.
PS: I have a bad back and previous machines gave me a fit after a few hours of hunting, but this CTX is so well balanced that it does not bother me at all. The only negative for me was the high price, but then as I said earlier, you are getting to great machines in one.

Wooz, I ran an E- trac before purchasing my CTX, so the Learning curve was rather small - it just seemed like a natural progression. One thing I can say is that the machine offers the ability to upload and install complete modes that the experts with the machine have created via the Echange2 program - which makes correct setup very easy. You still have to put in time on the detector to learn all of it's subtle fine points however, like any machine, but once it clicks it's a silver killer. I love the CTX and use it to the detriment of my poor old E-Trac that now collects dust (I keep it for my backup). I give it 2 thumbs up:thumbup::thumbup:

One thing that I failed to mention during my previous post on this subject, was, in addition to the assistance and help given by the dealer you buy from, this site and the members on here always are willing to go that extra mile to help you with any problems or questions that you might have. Digger and others have sit up the CTX 3030 classroom, now called CTX Resource Center, with all kinds of down-loadable programs and help that you can imagine and they are always there to help, with anything else you might need. I am amazed at their experience and knowledge of the detector and of their willingness to always try to help, those new to the machine. This forum is the best that I have ever seen or our hobby.

Wooz, Drop me an email at us.marshal.dodge@gmail.com as your Private Message rights have not been enabled yet and I'm not sure if I can post a link here. I can point you to a balanced review on this machine. I just picked one up and do like mine so far.

I wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my question with a lot of great information. I will be doing some more listening and reading on the site and more than likely be getting one in the spring. I live in Illinois and started doing ball field, forest preserve, homes and shallow water hunting again so this machine sounds like a killer.
Thanks,
The Wooz

Where are you located in Illinois? I'm located in Marion Illinois and would be happy to take you out and let you try out the detector.
