Purchase Consideration

I am in the market to purchase a new metal detector after many years away from the hobby. I am sure the technology has changed drastically sine i used my White's Coinmaster. I have been considering a Minelab etrac and want to hear the good and the bad about this machine. I am willing to invest the $1,000 plus for the machine but i want to be sure it is a good value and capable machine prior to committing.
Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully post towards this topic.

Hi, I think the E-Trac is the right way to go. The Explorer is fantastic, but the E-Trac is built to out perform it. Also pick up Andy Sabisch's new book and you'll be all set!

There's a monsterous difference between your old Coinmaster and the E-Trac. You will feel like you just started over. Ever heard a coin at 8" with the White's? Nope. Didn't exist. Be prepared to dig deep, and identify coins that deep.
Good Luck.

I was in the same position as you. Out of the hobby for many years. The coin master was my old machine too. The E Trac is a great machine! However, there is a learning curve. Order Andy Sabisch's book when you order the E Trac. Otherwise you could spend quite a few hours frustrated. I would recommend the E Trac. I Also ahve a Garret 2500, and of the two, the E Trac is definitely the more sophisticated detector.
Buy the E Trac AND the book and you will be fine.

Just put it in the coin program and go. Be aware of the conductive numbers and dig. It can get complicated if you start fiddling with it instead of just using it in factory settings. The factory program works very well. I did a lot of changing settings on the old Explorer II through the years I used it. The only changes I have done with the Etrac are preferences as to tones, threshold volume etc. This unit has been picking good targets out of trash infested areas for me since this is how I have been "testing" the machines ability. Good luck with what ever machine you decide on.

Ive had mine for just about 6 or 8 weeks. I have an Xterra too. I love them both but hardly use the Xterra much any more. Just got Andy's book last week...wish it had been available last month. It will save you many hours of trial and error. Almost every page including the explorer info is a must read. This book is worth triple what he charges for it and your Etrac is worth five times more with book in hand. Should be required reading for all new Etrac owners... just my opinion. Best combo deal going. Get the book and the Etrac and never look back.

Thank you for the reply and the information. I will order the etrac tomorrow and hate to see it sit under the tree until the 25th. However, grandfathers have to follow the rules too!

Thanks,
Don
