Pulse Induction toned machines

About 3years ago started investigating pulse induction machines. For wading, Also for hunting deeper ground in less trashy areas of parks.
So I went with a machine that has a hi/lo and a low/ hi signal. When these signals are drawn out, it's a pretty good bet it's trash. Of course there are those iffy signals. Now on top of the tones, you can interchange different coils. I'm satisfied with the depth, but I've never hunted another pulse to compare it to. With the tones and coil options, machine fills a lot of my needs. Is it the best pulse out there , I don't know. But it has advantages. So interestingly , like the Multi tones Golden, this pulse has been discontinued. Replaced with better technology and twice the price. Anyways any of you guys use Pulse Induction in dirt?

I use mine all the time, strictly a gold and gold jewelry PI but, does excellent on coins.

I use 3 Pulse machines,the TDI Pro with 7 coils from 7.5DF upto the massive 20'' Grande Sierra Mono coil,the biggest advantage that this machine has over many others is the ability to select which targets you are looking for by using the unique high/low target conductivity facility,you can actual coinshoot with this machine and knock out non desirables like nails etc,excels on the beach,but as i dont live near the coast i basically only use it for deep relic.hoard hunting here in the UK or on sites with high mineral content that a normal VLF machine just struggles with,but for me its the sheer depth especially with alrge coils,the beauty of the TDI Pro is the ability too use almost all the Mono coil that are available for the GPX range of detectors.

Also use a Crossbow Classic this is one of the original 13 that was only made,so a very rare and ultra deep machine more akin due to the Pulse delay for very deep large artifacts/hoards etc,i would not say its the best machine for say micro jewellery due solely to the pulse rate.

Then the last machine and this is as mentioned by Sven the superb and deadly 'Mirage' pulse,mine has a small 5'' Mono coil on it and the machine features a special 'small gold' feature which when coupled with a small coil is a perfect machine for jewellery ie rings etc not only on the beach but also inland and also being a Pulse offers depth over other VLF machines that are setup for micro gold jewellery.Mine is the non waterproof version but also a fully waterproof version is/was available.

Out of the 3 Pulse machines that i own/use the TDI Pro is the most versatile and this is mainly due to the low/high conductivity ability to select your targets that you are mainly after and leave the rest,when running the 20'' Mono coil on it the depth straight PI mode is how one might describe as 'more than enough' for what i want to dig,but then by changing over too say a smaller 6'' Mono coil is deadly on not only micro gold jewellery but also nugget hunting as well,but have never used it as a nugget machine as we dont have any goldfields as such,but we do have plenty of other highly desirable historic finds

I second Megas posting. I as well use a TDI Pro with the mods Reg described. It is a fantastic machine and it goes very deep. I also got one of Svens Mirage detectors last year which works very, very well on small Roman and Celtic coins. And last but not least, I own a Crossbow Classic Pi with the s/n #3, which is a depth monster especially for militaria from WW2. All three PI machines are also used in conjunction with my regular VLF machines. I usually use the VLFs first on a new location followed by a PI to make sure I did not miss anything deep.

My original Crossbow is No13 the last one ever made,have the original 10'' coil but also George Overton modified 2 Garrett SeaHunter coils ie the 8'' and 14x9'' Mono coils,must admit i dont use it as much as i did do prior to getting the TDI Pro,that was possibly the very last one into the UK due to the battery shipping problems with the Pro model,White got it shipped over and also another brand new battery as well,so both of those should keep me going for a few years,my favourite coil for the TDI Pro is the Coiltek 14x9 Mono not the TDI version but originally for the GPX range of machines.Also took the Crossbow off the not the best shaft that they came with and mounted it on a new straight shaft which makes it a far better machine too use.

My Crossbow came NOS from the German dealer who ordered the batch of 13 machines. It is still in its original configuration with the original coil. I had planned to put the machine on a straight shaft but now I actually looking to sell it. The TDI and the Mirage are more than enough PI for me. I actually got a second TDI Pro last years, practically the last one that was sold new in the US. So with two TDIs and a Mirage, the Crossbow has to go.

Very true. With the mods it is so much more quiet and sounds a lot better. The increase in depth is really incredible. Too bad Whites is giving the market to Minelab.

Did Whites even develop the TDI? I heard it was Eric Foster who designed the TDI and sold the rights to Whites.

Eric Foster is the Father of Pulse Induction metal detectors, so to speak.
The TDI was engineered by Eric for White's.

Glad I found this forum. I just received my first PI machine last week. A used Garrett ATX. I have to tell you.. I have been having a blast with it. I haven't raked in the high profile finds yet, but I have never been more confident that when I pass over a spot on the ground and it is quiet... there isn't a target within 2 feet of the coil. Of course, having only had the machine about a week, I am still will on the uphill side of the learning curve when it comes to PI's. I received some great feedback from Steve Herschbach as well as a few members on the ATX forum here. My intent wasn't to replace my VLF machines, but to give myself another weapon in my arsenal to combat the highly mineralized soil around my area (PNW). The ATX offers the HLH and LHL feedback, so I can target high conductors and low conductors if I want, but I have been trying to dig most of everything. Of course I won't know if I have a clad quarter or a silver dime under the coil as easily as with a VLF, but I'm already reasonably sure I can see beyond 5"... which is more than I have been able to say for my VLF's.

I don't have to tell you that your history goes back much further than ours. (USA) To find something old here as a Revolutionary button must be like a fresh drop to you fellows. So many Wars fought on top of each other, all the iron & steel, rare coins, tools, etc. I can see why you guys fight to get as deep as you can. Bet any number of you guys got some truly interesting finds.

Eric Foster and Whites teamed up, that is how the TDI originated. With Eric Fosters permission, Whites purchased my GoldScan 5 to help develop the TDI.

Whites also gave me an MXT in the process, hated to sell off the GoldScan 5 but I knew bigger and better things would arise from this. Was happy for both Eric and Whites, wasn't too much longer the TDI was released.

I've always kept this to myself, even during the process when Whites was developing the TDI I kept quiet on the internet.

By accident, Whites sent me a proto-type which was suppose to go to Jimmy Sierra. Had it the mail the next day to Jimmy, time flies seems like yesterday all this took place.

I think Whites will have a surprise for us in the near future, Pulse Induction surprise.
