Can someone tell us folks about the nickel & pulltabs,I;ve read and heard about how it locks on silver, but know one talks about the ratio of nickels and pulltabs.can you notch out most pulltabs and still get nickels? I live in Texas around Houston.thanks for any info on this.

Tabs will fool any detector I've used over the years and the X-Terra is no different. A solid 12 reading USUALLY means a nickel, however, if it's the kind of tab that folks lift up and push back to open a coke can .... and then for some ungodly reason they twist it off and throw it on the ground, it can read a solid 12 too. Most and again I say most tabs will bounce and NOT lock on ... something like 15-21-27 . It all depends, just so many different types of tabs have been thrown on the ground for our enjoyment ... ya just never know.
Beaver tails will read as a nickel too if they've been in the ground very long.
A full length older style pull tab is NOT a problem for me with the X-Terra ... they simply sound like crap and won't lock on.
I did dig one of those huge Big Mouth tabs the other day that sounded so weird I just had to dig it up and see what it was
Kinda sounded like can slaw and a nickel mixed.
The best advice I could give new users of the X-terra on questionable targets would be to go outside the target range before you hit the pinpoint button. When you get directly over the target and the (pinpoint circle) is acting wierd like staying spread out instaed of getting tighter ... it's usally garbage. The pinpoint sound will be wavering too, it just won't sound like a coin, bullet or good target period.

That many pieces of gold jewelry also falls with in the same areas. When setting up to use a pattern you many want to keep this in mind. Some places present themselves as a coin only area, and others Have a possible gold jewelry site also. I have not yet tested gold coins.....if someone has let us know the reading that they are getting. I would think that they may also be in the 18, 21, 24 target range.

Great advice Joe

In the past on most units, similar coductivite items, foil on most units share very similar conductive reading on items, small rings, (ladies & kids), ear rings, even ear ring keepers. Nickel readings I can't count the number of ladies rings that have fell into this range of conductivity.
All the way up to Zinc penny reading for a large-thick gold ring, and many gold chains & smaller chains giving a somewhat broken-choppy reading.Curious to see how the flexibility of the patterns on the Xterra will be. The additional coils will be good to have for sure..
