Pulltab tones

As you can see with my posts I'm on a sincere mission to learn my X-70. Just got done messing around in my test garden. So...Is it my hearing or do pulltabs seem to break up more using AM and 99 tones?? Seems like it to me.

Hi xwyokid.
I was kind of hoping that a 70 user might have answered your question by now. I seem to remember that Des dune wrote about pull tabs giving multiple hits when using a high frequency coil. You'll find the article that he wrote it in in FAQFAQ.
Personally, I use a 30 so I'm looking at a different way of telling these targets apart. Here in Oz, our 10c coins are on the same notch area as the square pull tabs (bouncing around from 12 to 16). There are a couple of give aways that I find helps to sort them out. A pull tab tends to give multiple hits more than coins do. Also, if you bring the coil over the target from several different directions, a coin give mostly give you a steady reading and a pull tab will cause the numbers to jump all over the place. They tend to do that anyway, but if the tab is doing a good job of masquerading as a coin, then this seems to be a good way of revealing what it really is. It's not fool proof, just improves your ability to discriminate what you have under the coil.

Thanks Mick, I messed around with it some more and I still think that pulltabs breakup more using 99 tones. Yesterday on 3 different targets using the 99 tones I called them as pulltabs even though I was getting good high pitch but with the little flutter.

using the 99 tones? I'm like Mick but I use the XT50, don't have the 99 tones, atleast, I haven't found them on the 50. HH John

Thanks for the insight. The 70 seems like a great little machine. I got to use a mates one again last week and really like it. Had it set up on the 99 tones as well. Very impressive little unit. One of these days I'll upgrade but in the mean time, I'll enjoy the 30.

Those videos are on youtube. Go to youtube and search minelab x-terra 70 and they have both videos for the 70 and one for the 30-50. I watched them before I decided on the X-70.Derek
