Thanks to all that suggested to go to the factory presets for beginners! it does helps to get to know the machine a little better i was trying to go to fast, all i wanted was deep silver.last night went out instead of 75 cents in clad i came out 7.50 in clade it wasn't silver but was something!!!! tones is the key word with this machine GET TO KNOW THEM!!!!!! got alot of learning to do before i start getting deep stuff!!!:yo:

Hang there, it takes time. Soon you will get it. One thing I like to do sometimes is set my gain at 5 or 6 so this way I can hear the difference between a shallow or deep coin. If I were you at this point, I would pretty much dig everything just to get to know the signals, but the gain setting might be something to think about. By the way I am using an EXII, so I don't know what machine you are using as the gain will be different on a SE, or especially an E-Trac

I am by no means an expert but what I noticed was allot of the deep coins was a matter of me listening to the machine not so much the settings. I know there are a few things that you can do to make the machine deeper but what i found was digging some of the more choppy but constant signals produced better. For my area running in iron mask was better than running wide open around 25 or 26 and I always run in auto ground balance and have still found coins a great depths, am I getting the maximum depth? probably not but I am pushing 9 or 10 inches. I also found that pushing the variability up all the way helped with identifying some signals. Other than that all of my settings are stock.

Montana i do well with simular setting. I do use manual, but have found pushing the sensitivity way up even when i can doesnt always give me any depth. Ive check many a deep signal in both manual and auto and you might get a little more something that would make you stop with manual than auto, but i could still hear it in auto. 9 - 10 inches is really pretty good depth for this machine. Not too many other machines can brag with a stright face that they go this deep. Ive tried that going down to 6 gain, it just doesnt work for me. At 9 i still get modulation on deep coins but for my hearing i get to hear everything a little better on those repeats. At 6 it sounds like low mineral noise to me. Millingtime, sounds like you are on your way to enjoying your machine... good deal. The most important thing is to get that confidence and trust your settings.

adjust the variability to a maxed out 10.

This is JUST MY OPINION...but it is also one of the keys I feel helps me to find some deep, previously masked coins.

If you don't do it soon...all those sounds that you spent time familiarizing yourself with will CHANGE if you ever decide to do so.

The reason I suggest this is because I feel it is one of the simplest tools to help identify deep silver.

The maxed variability gives you the biggest tone difference between silver and other coins...just makes it "stand out".

This can be extremely helpful when listening for deep silver hits when the machine might be nulling (no threshold).

Don't be worried that you won't hit deep coins in the preset mode either because it is more than capable of hitting 8"+ deep coins right out of the box.

I hear that from you at least 10 times each time I hunt with you.
It's hard for me to slow this load down once I get'er rolling though:biggrin:

Bryce Thank You I set the Variability ar 10 and it sounds good on Silver I use a Ex II , What would really Help if thay used a differenr word thean Varibility its to long ????????????????????? LOL Mickfin
