Pullin' trigger for a new Compadre

Spider-F5

Active member
i recently purchased an F5 and after carrying it out to get better aquanted with it a few times, the wife has gotten interested in the sport/hobby and im wanting to surprise her with a new detector. i figure the compadre would be the best thing/bang for the buck for her but i see that they are avail with two different sized coils. my question is.... which coil would be best and why? thanks in advance and HH :beers: <Spider

I have the Compadre with the 5.75 inch coil that I'm very happy with. I haven't tried the one with the 8 inch coil, but if I was coming out the gate again, I'd get it.

That's super nice that you have a wife to share your detecting interest with. You may want to trade detectors with her after you see what it can do. :)

Ha!! After using the Compadre for a little bit, your gonna end up telling your wife the F5 is better suited for her!!! LOL

That COMPADRE will be a blast to use. It will suprise you a lot how good it realy is. I hope your wife dont let you try it. You wont give it back to her. It is that much fun. The compadre put a new meaning to metal detecting. Tell her to enjoy it and protect it from you. She will love you for what you done for her. Thumbs up for you... KEN

Don't listen to Ken, he is a bit off base on this one.

Give the F5 to your wife and tell her she will need the aid of a digital display and that a detector with one knob is too hard for somebody new to use. This way you will never have to beg to get the Compadre back from her. You will thank me later. I know it sounds selfish but you gotta think of yourself first! Just Sayin! LOL

Baaahhh ha ha ha! you guys are a hoot :crylol: ...... but all BS aside, after readng the forums and taking in consideration of the area/property i have(which is an old 100 plus year family home site) has a history that goes beyond just my family. you see, it once had an old community church, a roadside community privy/outhouse and a holler(back in the woods) that is loaded with old dumpings from the last 100 plus years. i figure the Compadre will keeps us both busy for many years to come and we'll both have a whale of a time hunting it and with the varying ground and terrain, what better machine to use for the both? :twodetecting:

HH <Spider

spider I would get the one with the 8" coil its deeper than the 5.75 coil , and can handle a fairly trashy spot . and like you say on that 1st 6- to 8" on that farm its going to find a lot of Items for you the 5.75 will get a bit closer to metal and still find things

and I was quick to assemble. hopefully I can get out this evening after its cooled down a bit. if not, i'll be out there the first thing in the morning. :detecting: the wife has gone out of town for a couple of days and still has no idea..... hopefully, ill not have worn it out before she gets to use it.

let tuss know how you do with it

I can see trouble coming. You are going to test it out? You will not let your wife use it once you find out what it will do. Have fun with it... KEN

You be nice.
