pulled another one out of the iron fire

Well I went back to the park where I found my 1929 mercury dime (that was my post: Silver "off the bat") and pulled another Mercury dime out of the iron mess. This time a 1919 mercury dime and 4 wheat cents, 1957-D, 1938,1953 and 1956-D. (This park is horrendous for iron)Today it was is like every coin signal "popped" with iron while I am pinpointing and while digging (and re-scanning) my find. Anybody else ever experience a site like this? My wrist hurts from digging. lol I mine as well go dig up asphalt as this is how solid and dry the dirt is at this place. I had to stand up and lean into the digger with all my weight. Anyhow, I have to find a different place to detect until my wrist feels better. Now if I can just find some sand to detect and go dig in....hmmm

Thats a nice one , just think how many more are masked by Iron , you know for digging in dirt that hard I have found that a pitch fork tine with a handle works great no kidding , it very strong steel and picks the hard dirt away andy kind of shovle just makes things worse hopfully you will get some raine,

There is rain in the forecast for tomorrow. (7-3-11) This place would need 5 inches of rain over a period of 5 days to soften the ground. I believe you on the pitch fork tine as I have used them but I do not think that would go over to well with the city. Unless someone created a miniature one like the size of my lesche digger. Now that would be neat.

Good find. Have you tried hunting that spot in Auto? It may surprise you. I'm all for hunting in manual sens but Auto seems to do wonders in really bad ground. One thing for sure is to at least lower your sens setting to perhaps 3:30PM or so as it will null less over that iron. Remember too that in a place like that depth isn't your main concern or enemy, it's penetrating that lousy iron infested soil. In that case a lower sens setting or Auto will do a better job IMO.

Thanks Critterhunter. I don't even use manual sensitivity in this place. I just keep it in auto and sweep slow. For the most part, many of the places I have been hitting have been with auto sens. When I do use manual, I usually set it around 3.
