Pulled a nice "first" for me...1932 Grant HS Class ring!

I have done very well on rings-not gonna complain at all.

But like many hunters certain targets just seemed elusive. I'm a dirt digger for the most part so gold rings are fairly rare. But I have never dug a class ring of any variety.

And this is a real nice one-with a historic tie to my area.

I was using my AT pro-Attack coil on a well covered piece of turf. I have very mineralized soil in Gresham Oregon so I run Pro with a minimum disc depending on the area. One area had a lot of iron tones but a few solids in the mix. Using iron audio I found a solid 55 in the mix that did not have a wrapped iron signal. I had to take a seat & admire it. Doggie got 2 snacks instead of the usual one when I find a desired object. And boy was this a desired object for me...

After replacing the plug & tamping it down I still had iron honking at me beneath where the ring was found and all around. That was why it was still there waiting for me I'd wager.

Also pulled a nice quartz heart pendant for my wife no pic- she is wearing it. Not a real gold chain but very pretty for my sweetie.
And the pull tab count resets-only about 990 till my next ring by average.

Real nice find...long before ever getting into detecting i found a 1925 class ring at an old pay and swim place..i proptly lost it an hour later... i never found another really old class ring since...congrats...

Yeah, thats a nice old find....and under some trying conditions it sounds like. Nice job! HH jim tn

Nice find:thumbup: You probably hit that class ring at just the right angle of swing to hear the good target amongst the trash. Any type of gold is good but to me the older the better. Best of luck out there and good hunting!

Great find. The oldest one I've found was 1934. The owner was still living. He was 97 yrs. old when I returned the ring to him.

Great ring, we used to find alot of older class rings water hunting old beaches but their getting harder and harder to find these days. Great find. Love those older rings

Good find !! Beautiful ring !!
Good invention graduation ring, here in my country this practice is not used and therefore, you do not have it, can not miss ... and I can not find:sadwalk:

Very sweet find in a tough area! :surprised: A real trophy there, would have no doubt never been found by just anyone swinging coil...may have seen a few coils in the past in fact...good lock on and dig there, Darkflight!:clapping: Very good work!

Nice find! When I saw Grant HS I thought it probably wasn't grant hs in Portland Or, but apparently it is! I hunt the Portland area also, congrats on your gold ring!

Thanks for the replies-this spot is giving up some more goodies!

I did not get out yesterday but managed a few hours today. And I'm starting to figure the productive area. Not huge and in between current active fields. But I got a few older finds today. A nice ring-marked sterling & an older style. Also an old watch case and a token for a store that is not only still in business. I shop there all the time. A good for $.25 trade Fred Meyer token.

The class ring has 2 initials so not much to go by. It was certainly worn for a while before it was lost showing considerable wear. The center piece with the school initials (GHS) spins freely-glad it was not lost.

If I can get a lead I'll follow-but certainly odds & time are against a return.

Just glad to be finding some deeper targets. Damp soil helps and the big coil is also a plus. I'm going real slow but swinging fast if you get what I mean. When I hit anything with a solid repeat I'll work at the target in a walk around to make the dig decision. On a lot of these signals one pass is not enough. I am getting some stupid deep pulltabs but struggle past 7" on a dime in my soil. The ring was clear high 80's at about 7" and the watch face was a whisper 50's at about 9". My ground balance is low-mid 90's in most areas so yeah-very mineralized.
Cheers!
