New member
went to the local park today all i dug was pull tabs pull tabs and pull tabs..in coins mode help me with this problem

Coins mode will eliminate most pull tabs as well as everything else but coins. To get the good stuff you must dig pull tabs Choice you gotta make.

You gusta to dig the pull tabs to get the rings, when you get tired of doing that take a snack break and regroup, think positive!! HHH

Yes and not only pull tabs but smashed aluminum bottle caps and burnt aluminum cans (globs). All ring up like a quarter.

Whole aluminum can shows 4", it's really 6-8". Pinpoint gives the size away.

Garrett Pro Pointer, got to have it.

I'm working on trying to tell the difference..

Keep on Brother!

Either your sensitivity is too high or you're talking about the sta-tabs-which register as nickels on every machine-or something's wrong with the machine.

Sorry I miss read the question, I think it ties into the question about finding rings in the 5 cent range, thanks slingshot for the clarity.

That was all I could figure out since it was short and a little unclear.

Hey Formon: You did not say which Garrett detector you were using. With the AT Pro using the digital read out you can eliminate most of the trash. With mine-52 or 53 is most likley a nickel. 54 and above is usually pull tabs. Testing with several good targets and several junk targets using the digital read out, you should have much better success......Jack

I dug a large 14K mens ring with 4 diamonds and 1 emerald that hit on 54.To dig or not to dig, that is the question.

Yep you nailed Slingdhot!

As nasty as they are....they share the same conductivity as a high K gold ring. Eventually, a nice gold ring will come up. Having said that, a gold ring tends to have a stronger, yet softer audio compared with a pull tab. Those 4 corners on pull tabs cause extra eddies to be formed and picked up from the coil causing a very slight rougher sound. Also, going over a ring (when lying flat) will give the same strong, soft tone in all directions when swing the coil over it, as compared to slightly different audio sounds in certain directions over a pull tab. The older pull tabs, with the beaver tail tend to sound a lot like gold rings, especially if the beaver tail has broken off..

You just have to be more selective about what targets signals you decide to dig. Try to put as many tabs in a very few notch segments, and don't dig them unless
they are over a certain depth, or exhibit some characteristic that makes them atypical from the group. For example, you know one lying with a coin is going to i.d./
sound differently when scanned from the two different directions, and this will also be different than the average single tab you are trying to learn. by i.d. and audio.
Make sure you scan targets to and fro, (forward and back); this will also help categorize the tabs, but can result in some nice surprises other have missed because
they just left all tab signals undug. Its been said 1,000 times; if you aren't digging some trash you are leaving some treasure.

Ran 27 gold rings past my machine and 5 rang up in the PT range. They are from 2.5 gms to 5 gms and 9k to 18 k.
So 18% of some of my gold rings chosen at random are in the pt range.

Ran 57 sil rings and 2 registered as pt
Sil chains tended to be in the pt range or high iron range depending on link size.

There is no doubt that to find gold you must dig all targets
