Pull tab ?? Penny??

Rob (IL)

New member
I read people saying nickels read 18 - 20 and a 22 is a pull tab. Well today I pulled several nickels that read 22 and one that was a 24. But the best tab of the day was the 10KT tab which read a 22 but turned out to be a gold ring with a very small diamond.

Other people ignore the pennies. The 925 silver ring read as a penny. I found it the last time I went hunting with Larry and Nancy. So if you only go by the numbers you never know. Rob

very nice rob, on my machine 18 is always been a nickel i do try to dig the 20- 22 but so far its always been a tab i havent found that ring yet so im sure ive passed some up. and for me a dime is always 77 and if its in the 80 and says quarter its never been wrong i can count on it, is this what you guys are getting to. thanks bryan

I pretty much agree that the 77 - 80 range will get me a dime or real penny. The reading on the silver ring wasn't that high it was a lower 70's, It's been a while, and I was expecting a penny. My point was when cherry picking many guys wouldn't have dug either target. In super trashy sites I might not have bothered with them either. Rob

I agree with bswift33.18 20 nickel here or maybe 16 if it is red or green from ground.Dug a lot of 22 24 usually shredded cans but probably passed a ring or two.

Another good post Rob. Nice ring finds too. You sure find your share of gold rings. :) Goes to show we can't always rely on the VDI readings. Thanks for sharing and also for the pics. HH to all, Nancy

Nice find Rob, yes If your hunting for the Jewelry you got to dig the full VDI + range, Yes you will also dig trash, But there's just no way around it. Few months ago I was Dry sand hunting at my beach, and kept hitting on Bottle caps and after the 12th bottle cap I hit on another cap, to my surprise there was a large Platinum diamond Ring in my scoop.
