Pub site finds from ash!

Golden

Hello all, a few days ago I went to an old pub site where I'd previously found an 1840 silver threepence. So this time around, I found two half pennies dated 1862, one with a hole in the middle, as if once mailed to a wall of the pub! A few other relics too. Going back next week for more detecting, to see what else I may come up with. Thanks for looking.

I went back to the pub site yesterday, and of all things forgot my pick! After scrounging around in the car found a screw driver and a spanner! So, luckly the soil was soft for a few inches down after some heavy rains we had, but down further the soil was like cement. Apart from all the signals I couldn't dig for (with a screw driver!), I did manage to find a few blackened coins, a cricket belt buckle and buttons. Going back next week with my son, so better pack a picnic lunch!
Cheers Golden:detecting:

So, do you have any idea what it is? I just found mine yesterday next to where an old church used to be located. A church is still there, but a new building now. The old one was torn down years ago. It was built in the 1850s, I think. We're about an hour south of Adelaide. Where are you located?
Some nice old coins there! I'd definitely be spending some time there!
Cheers,
Toby

Hello Toby. That use to decorate the edge of a door where the lock or knob was. Part of it is missing, the part that outlines around the actual latch, as you close the door, the latch goes into the hole in the frame. Am I making sense here?! Have a look at some old houses where the locks and knobs are, and you should see a few of those decorative pieces. Part of it is missing.

Hello all, went detecting yesterday to the pub site and this time remembered my pick! Found a couple of silvers, buttons, part of what looks like a cricket belt buckle (unsure), and other bits. Had my son with me, who practiced flying his remote control helicopter between the ashen trees, while listening to his Ipod. So he was happy. (he's 16 years old!) Then followed me around watching as I dug. He was just as impressed as me with the amount of coins retrieved from the one site, 10 all up, and most where within a 20ft radius, some only a few inches down, others buried close to 12 inches deep. Unfortunately, I hit the sixpence with the pick, I was so disappointed. I haven't done that before. The Quattro handled itself excellently in this type of ground. Can't wait to go back, hopefully next week! Thanks for looking! Golden:)
