I know when I was looking for a used Terra detector alot of people listed them in near mint shape. Most of the wear was to the lower shaft. With the Terra series having different colored shafts they seem to show the wear more from hunting in thick weeds and branches.
One way to protect your shafts is to use pipe insullation. I use it around here on water heater pipes to contain the heat from the hot water line. It hurts when touching your forearm on a 120-150 degree pipe while painting or fixing something.
Most of us never break down the detector when storing it at home so theres no need to take it off everytime. Its light, has a harder outside coating and the foam insualtion doesn't effect the machine. You can go to Home Depot, Lowes or Ace hardware and buy a 10' section of 1" for next to nothing. It comes with a partial slice down the middle to open it up. Fit the foam over the lower section and use tape or ties to hold it in place.
I use it on my hand grips when its wet outside to keep then nice and clean. Then take it off after I am done and wash it out in the sink. I use the foam on the lower shaft when hunting around bushes and deeper grass. Works like a charm and keep the detector shaft looking new and easier to sell. Hope the tip helps
