Prospecting w/705

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, really starting enjoy all the different subject treads. Question: purchased a 705 about 5 months ago, (still learning) would like some info about prospecting with it? Any tips would be helpful. I've purchased the 6"HF coil, & made a gold sucker... Hoping to be ready for spring.

Had two 705's and loved both until I got to WY, was real excited to try it out in the prospecting mode. Seemd to be ok in a few streams where I found the usual garbage but when I hit a mine tailing pile it crapped out and just contiuned to sound off over the entire pile. got off the pile and it worked fine. Called Minelab from right there on top of the mountain, can't remember if I talked to John or Kevin. Whomever it was offered no help and said he would have the 705 expert get back to me the same day. Never heard a peep from them. Took out my old Gold Demon and it worked fine over the same ground, no gold but lots of lead! So if I had to give an opinion, I would not recomend it for prospecting.

I had a 705 and the 6 hf coil. I prospected with it a few times and couldent get the hang of it. I didnt have the previous posters problem. I worked some dredge tailings and it did fine. I had trouble with th iron mask. It didnt seem to work the wy I expected. I probably didnt give it enough time to really learn the machine. Prospecting is probably the hardest form of detecting, you will have to work at it for a while. One way to practice is to go to a lake ehere the water is down and hunt the rocky area's for lead. Its a good wayy to learn what small targets can sound like. Good luck and keep at it.

Its hard to stick to it, finding only lead weights. But its the best way I have found to practice, besides the real thing.
