Prospecting Mode

I never use prospecting mode for anything and after I read that some people use it to pinpoint with, I'm going to start playing around with it. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the volume varies with depth, when in prospecting mode? The arrows on the display, for depth are frequently wrong when relic hunting because of being calibrated for coins.

Tone variation changes with depth in Prospecting mode, but not volume. Not unlike C/T mode, size also matters in terms of tone variation. Which is to say that a small target that is shallow will sound the same as a large target that is deep.
I know of no machine that is accurate on depth w/o being based on some size reference.
