Prospecting Mode

Guess I didn't really understand prospecting mode before. I've gone into that mode to help pinpoint deep targets, but haven't used it to hunt with. Today I was playing around in the test garden out back and I noticed that prospecting mode will give back different tonal qualities on different targets. My question is, how good is this tonal difference? I know its one tone, but like the Tesoros it seems this can give back different qualities in that one tone. Can you learn to tell the difference between the tone iron gives off, versus non-ferrous? If so, then I don't need to bring along my Tesoro to get max depth in all metal and the X-terra will give better depth with the 10.5 MF DD than my MXT ever did with the stock coil.

The pitch of the audio response in Prospecting mode is based on the size of the target, and the distance that target is from the coil. With some simple airtests, you can see that a quarter at 6 inches sounds like a dime at three, or a large bolt at nine. All metal in your Tesoro is the same as the Prospecting mode in the X-70 with one VERY IMPORTANT difference....... you have programmable iron mask capabilities with the X-Terra. With that said, I know what you are talking about in qualities of tone. On my Advantage, I can tell a piece of iron by the way the tone jumps in and breaks off. Accepted targets are smooth entering and exiting the detection area. Whereas rejected targets simply sound erratic "at the edges".

By the way, I agree that the 10.5 DD coil will get better depth than the MXT with the 950 Eclipse. Plus you have notches and tones. Two things that I am finding harder to "do without" more each year! HH Randy
