Prospecting mode question.

Going to try to find some gold next week. Do I just GB the machine then stick it in prospecting mode and start hunting? There has been small nuggets found in this area but not very often. Should I reduce the iron mask preset setting to try to pick up smaller gold? Using the 6x10 HF coil.

If you are going to be searching in the Prospecting Mode, ground balance the machine while in the Prospecting Mode. This is very important because the Prospecting Mode has its own ground balance setting which is separate from the Coin & Treasure Mode ground balance setting. Setting the ground balance in one mode does not set the ground balance for the other. In fact, all settings in the Prospecting Mode is separate from all settings in the Coin & Treasure Mode. This includes the sensitivity setting, volume setting, threshold setting, etc., in addition to the ground balance setting. (Think of it as having separate detectors in one.)

Read the Xterra 705 ripoff topic you may find usefull tidbits in there. I found stuff I may be able to use. Try to ignore the heavy opinions though as they do change as you get toward the end and I emailed Bubba and he was thankful for the help even if he started off a little bad. He is going to try the machine out some more with the help he got.

I intend on hunting with the 5x10 HFDD because that is the gold coil I have but I think it is going to pick up to much fines and I want NUGGETS so I am going to get a 10.5 HFDD.

What coil are you going to hunt with? and in what part of the country?
