Prospecting mode confusion

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone can explain something to me. I have seen reference in regards to the 705 of switching to Prospecting Mode to check your target. So, in other words, if you have an iffy target, you can swicth modes and listen to the tone to see if it is a good target or not ?

I have tried this method, but I am not sure what I am hearing and if it good or bad ? Does anyone have an audio clip of what it should and shouldn't sound like if it is a good target to dig ?

Thanks
Bill

Prospecting mode will not provide you any target ID. It is very useful, however, when used to Pinpoint a target. HH Randy

I like using prospect mode ALL the time for pinpointing. Use it. You will love it as well.

Just curious what you feel you gain using the prospecting mode for pinpointing.

When using the prospecting mode for pinpointing, this is what I have found. When I swing the coil over the target, the response is a crisp high tone when right over the target. As the tone fades away, I know I'm not over it anymore. It's as simple as that. I guess it's just a confirmation to what I'm seeing and hearing in pinpoint mode. But there are also times that the prospect mode is allot more accurate than the pinpoint mode. Maybe it has to do with the mineralization in the ground. I'm no expert by any means, but I do know this, prospect mode works great for pinpointing. Give it a shot and see if it works for you too.

Happy hunting

Good points. I might add that Pinpointing is an excellent tool for "guesstimating" the size and shape of a target. With the introduction of Pinpoint sizing, that is not as big of issue on the 705 as before. But if you learn to use Prospecting to size and shape a target, you can combine that with Normal Pinpoint and have all your pinpointing bases covered! JMHO HH Randy

So, can anyone comment on my original question ? If you have an iffy, broken signal that jumps around, some folks have mentioned that you can switch to prospecting mode and the tone can help you determine if it is junk or a diggable target. I am hoping to hear in a video or audio clip what the sounds are. Anyone ?

Thanks
Bill

Part of what they may be referring to, might be the fact that often with "iffy" targets what your detector alerts you to is the edge of a junk object. If you lock in the ID in Pinpoint ID mode it will sometimes indicate a larger target off to the side, but not always. Sometimes it just centers you over that value.
In cases like this, going into Prospect Mode or Pinpoint Sizing you will find that the actual target isn't where you thought, which in turn most often is an indication of junk.

Maybe I was not explaining clearly how and why I use the prospecting mode since my reply is deleted and thats allright.Don
