Prospecting in coin mode BT?

kris

New member
BT do you ever use coin mode when looking for gold ? I see some one on another site saying he uses it in this mode in difficult mineralised ground.

Yeah I do Kriss. But I dont solely rely on it. I use it as a "cross checker" switching from Prospecting mode to a pattern which accepts all targets but shows the ID. I am convinced that if you ran coin mode specifically to look for gold you WILL miss gold as hot bad ground full of iron mineralisation can/does cause false readouts. Gold can slot in at many different ID numbers because of irregularities in shape, degrees of impurities, differing amounts and types of minerals and so on. I have seen gold read 2, 6, 8, 12, 24 and dont doubt other numbers too. I, if the ground is full of junk will go from one mode to the other and if they both agree its good I dig it up, if they are at odds, one says good one says bad I dig it up, when they both bark back at me "its junk stupid" I will leave it for when a machine comes out that is "THE ONE" and can tell no matter what the conditions. I do admit that I more than likely leave some gold behind when doig this but I do it when I have no other option because of the amount of junk there. You know, your only option would be to surface the whole damn area to be really sure because of the squillions of targets there and you just dont have the time or a back, hands and arms made out of titanium.
I run minimum iron disc in Prospecting mode of just 1, any higher and you can get it trying hard to cut it out. Set the sens accordingly, dont sweat it if you have to run a low sens. I got a 1/3 of an ounce bit the other day in chirpy ground running just 18 on the sens. Lower it till it shuts up and smooths out.
Use the coin mode when you have no other option, but as yet I have never needed to.
Oh yeah, many complain of noisy ground that sort of really isnt, they are swinging too fast and generating false noises that will not be there at all if they got the sweep speed right. They then resort to other measures to get a quiet running which is not needed and actually go backwards.
I dont doubt that in places a disc pattern would be good, but like I said, ive never needed to.
