Prospecting Coil Recommendation

mdunn

New member
I'm very new and just got myself a used MXT that came with the 9.5 eclipse coil.
I do frequent trips to Alaska for work and want to get out and look for nuggets.
I've purchased the EXcellerator concentric 6" and was still thinking I'd need another coil for prospecting.
Is that true do you think? If so would you recommend a particular coil for prospecting with the MXT?
On Kelly's web site I see specific prospecting coils but are they honestly needed over what I have?
If they are I'll get one but interested in opinions from you good folks.
Thanks.

6x9 dd coil for sure!

I appreciate the reply but help me understand what your recommended 6 x 9 DD will give me over the the 6"" concentric DD. More coverage just based on size I understand. Anything else?
Just trying to be more informed. Thanks

Depth, getting into a tight areas, better discrimination and sensitivity. Operate in the Hyper-Sat turned all the way up. Most gold fields in NV, CA, OR, and AZ have very mineralized ground. The SuperSAT will eliminate problems with even the worst mineralization. The MXT is a gold nugget magnate if use properly. I compared and did a write up here on the comparison between a 10 inch dd coil vs the 6x9dd. The 6x9 ruled. Remember, there is no pinpointing in the prospecting mode. You have to pinpoint the old fashioned way....pass your coil 90 degrees over the target to find the target or use the toe and heel method. LOL.

get the 6x10dd coil....it rocks

Right, I do not know why I keep calling it the 6x9 dd! It is the 6x10dd.....old age I guess. I firmly believe that Whites should sell the MXT with this coil. It is the coil you will end up using for most applications.

Ok, I got it.
You mean this one? White's Eclipse DD 5.5 x 10"
I don't see anything else that I think it could be.
It's white. $152.95 at Kelly's.
Thanks again.

NO! It is the Whites 6x10 dd Eclipse! Go to Whites Electronics and buy direct from Whites!

Eclipse DD (6x10) Search Coil for Spectra V3, DFX

It appears to be the same. I do not know why Kellyco calls it a 5.5x10 dd when everyone else, including Whites, calls it a 6x10dd. But then I call it a 6x9dd coil.......go figure.....

I use the 15 x 18 sef DD butterfly coil almost all the time now. i use the 5.3 when I need to get into tight spaces or if it's too trashy.
This big sef coil lets me get down to the bedrock on my favourite hunting grounds and it can still pick up a .2 grammer in the top couple of inches. If I'm having trouble pin pointing, now i'm switching to relic mode to use pinpoint function. .. very heavy after several hours so i'd advise a bungy cord to carry the weight .

Dicko..

Thanks Dicko. I need to consider weight as I'll be flying and packing everything in my checked luggage.

I have to agree with AZ it is hard to beat the 6X10" Eclipse.
