Propointer question.

From what I can gather, the Garrett Propointer uses VLF technology; would this not cause a problem in soil where VLF detectors don't operate well? Although I would be using it with the ATP a lot (like the ATP needs one) I really wanted a PI pointer that could follow my Infinium around, at least on land (although preferably everywhere...)

Is my logic flawed?

Thanks
John

Thanks G^3.

It has been confusing. Most of the literature I have found online advertise it as VLF, Garrett even states it as having an operating frequency (12kHz) instead of PPS. I have run across a couple of "mentions" of it being PI, hence the reason for this question... PI makes more sense for a pointer.

%$#@!, believing it was VLF is the main reason I didn't get one bundled with my last purchase... could have saved a few bucks.

Thanks

The Pro Pointer uses Pulse Induction..Not VLF...

HH,

From looking at the signal on my oscilloscope I'd have to say it is not PI.
12KHZ VLF
The vibroprobe on the other hand states it is PI.

This is interesting!----To know for certain, call a tech at Garrett & ask them.-----I always thought it was VLF also as the literature I've seen states it as 12khz.

Ya I concur based on the literature, and, my scope confirms what it says. But a quick call to Garrett would remove all doubt.
They are a fantastic little device. I also like the fact that the 9V battery lasts a very long time.
The fact that it vibrates is a real plus as I'm usually wearing headphones and with a threshold tone humming away, and wind noise etc. I often have a hard time hearing the tone from it.
Not to mention I'm starting to go deaf...or is it selective hearing.

I wonder if it is a PI because it drives my Tesoro Sand Shark nuts. It screeches so bad that i have to take the head set off when using the pro pointer.

OK, I have since found out that the Propointer is NOT PI. He did not say it was VLF specifically, only that it was single frequency. I have seen enough good reviews in findmall though, I am seriously considering getting one.

The one deal breaker I hear bout the Vibraprobe is lack of an on/off switch, well, and that it does not quite have the depth of the Propointer. PI and water proof to 30 meters is a big plus though. May still end up with one...

It is as bad as trying to buy a truck, seems like every brand has one major feature or strength they are know for and can't get anywhere else...
