propointer and merc switches

i know weve dabbled in this before. My question is do you think by positionally engaging the current off and on (holding the unit up or down) so the unit comes "off and on" through the mercury switch, is that the same as turning the unit off and on in the normal way with the on off switch. As i heard normally it sometimes retunes itself turning it off and on, do you think this is the same as interrupting and reestablishing the current, with the mercury switch.? my gut feeling is it doesnt matter, what are your opinions,? it matter to me as for a modification im thinking about. thanks for your input, CO

I've had a mercury switch in my Propointer for at least a year now. Never noticed any difference from the ON-OFF switch. The Propointer ON-OFF switch is made from several tiny plastic parts, doesn't look durable to me. I press the ON-OFF switch only twice for each hunt, when I start searching and when I quit to go home.

Just 2 switches in series. There would be no difference.
