property for sale.....anyone detected these sites?

I occasionally drive around the neighborhood and find homes for sale that nobody lives in and some are pretty old homes that have cache potential but not sure weather i should get permission from the real estate agent or if it matters.
What should i do?

The Realtor can put you in touch with the owner. Definitely get permission. You can volunteer to help them find property stakes in return for permission into the yards of some of their clients.
Also make a friend on the fire department. They can tell you if they have any homes scheduled for a controlled burn. Those home owners are easy to get permission from because they don't care how the yard looks specially since it will be tore up by the fire trucks and bulldozers.

Vacent or not, it is still owned by someone. Nancy and I will call the Realtor and they will often get a hold of the owner. Sometimes we get a yes, more often, a no if a bank or business is involved.

We have better luck with for sale by owner properties.

I see, a few homes dont have much to show for a yard so maybe ill be lucky. A big help is the "old farts" AKA "grandparents," they live in a older part of town and know the whole neighborhood and they will mention my interest and i always get told to "come over any day and help yourself."
gotta love old people no offense but someones gotta tell them the truth.

You still have to get permission from the owner. The agent may can point you in the right direction but they cannot give you permission.

.....Wow...that's a little arrogant and dis respectable.I take offense and would love the opportunity for this "Old Fart" to teach you some manners...you obviously didn't learn any growing up...or you haven't grown up yet, I don't know which is which. Thought I would just tell you the truth.

PS: Sometimes someone has to speak up...I hope I didn't offend anyone other than this young man/boy that has posted.

Thank you George. We've been detecting the small town that I grew up in and if it weren't for being polite and letting the home owners know that their yard won't be torn up, we wouldn't have had so many silver finds. Respect is something that you earn! Doesn't matter what age you are. Believe me, the younger generation is more likely to give you permission, because they don't care how their yards look. Trust is everything. Thanks and HH, Nancy
