Heres a video for the new guy talking about how to swing a detector.

Absolutely correct see guys swing like that all the time

Funny fellow. I bet there are guys watching this video that swing just like that. Plus there new guys here.....

That's why I always use a coil cover regardless as I am a coil scrubber. The closer You can get to the ground the better.

I see that Tiger Woods swing frequently at the beach. I have seen some guys who have been detecting for years doing that swing. I sometimes point out the proper way to swing to some folks and some do actually pay attention. Others just go on doing their thing. So I follow them down the beach digging targets they missed. .

HAHAHAHAHA I tried to correct a guys swing one morning while out detecting. He continued to lift it up on each swing and went across the yard at a brutal pace..about 12" of detecting area on each swing was his max target area..Guess what :yikes:.. he found the most beautiful Silver pocket watch I have ever seen. The rest of us low and slow swingers found pennies.. A true story.. I never corrected any one else again.. He has also found many more good targets !!

Who Knew !! LOL ..to each his own is now my Motto...

That's funny lol I see guys old timers my Dad 86 still detecting got him a equinox and watching him is painful sometimes lol I tell him slowwww down and keep the coil to the ground through your whole swing!
Then he picks up his old Garrett Gti! ugggh!
But he has made some great finds in his 40+ years of hunting his higgly copper is most memorable.

There is a right way and a wrong way to swing a detector and for the guy that swing like that it's ridiculous, and the odd's of the % sure you might get lucky but think of all the good target they missed. Why would anyone swing like that it's lack of form, self control and patience.

Coil control is IMHO perhaps the one most overlooked thing in this hobby. Not all detectors are the same, some “perform better” with different swing speeds, and of course speed should be adjusted for conditions. It’s a very subjective thing, one must know the machine and what technique to use with it,in the site they’re in and according to the targets wanted. VERY subjective...

Yes very true but swinging wildly and having the coil inches off the ground will just leave more stuff for me that's a given lol...
Been there seen it.
