Prop wash to blow the sand away

Water wizard

New member
Hi guys, I am making a prop wash with my 20 hp mercury 2 stroke outboard. I have got 30 feet of 4inch hose, and my friend is going to make up a collar that fits over the propeller and attaches on to the hose after a 90 degree elbow bend. It's a spare engine so it won't be used to power the boat. I'm hoping to clear sand up to 30ft away with the jet from the hose. I was thinking of making some sort of power nozzle that steps the water pressure up by the pipe getting narrower so its under more pressure. Anyone tried this yet? I've seen gold divers and those pumps they use are 2000gpm! I think the idea should work, and it's cheap to make, but I am using a spare outboard, I wouldn't use my main engine. It is bad to go near the outboard and prop in the water, so 2 engines mounted on the transom is the only way I would do it. Anyone made one already? Will it work?

What sort of area do you plan on using this?I'm positive that in my waters you would need a permit to do this....if you could get one at all!!..I can't see being able to do it around public beaches without drawing unwanted attention.Kinda like using a large shovel in a city park!...Good luck in your quest, post some pics.

At old beach's that have long been gone. It would not be a major operation, more like pull in, stable up. Hook up your blow tube which is just a piece of 8 inch tube and a large fitting .....Find your low spots, then work them with the blower. Then work them with my Viper detector. Blow a 10 x 10 area which might take 15 minutes if the sand is not to deep. Since your using the boat motor it's not like using a dredge where your out with a noticeable piece of equipment. It will require 2 people. But if you had a jetski I bet the sand removal with the smaller fitting might be less noticeable.

Yes I plan on doing it in an out of the way place, and because I'm using the spare engine it should be pretty easy and low key. I'll post some pice up when it's done, a storm has just blown up so I'm delaying my triptill my next day off. I love the jet ski idea, it looks good in the picture. Does it blow much and, and how long is the hose? Cheers OBN :)
