In the morning before it gets too hot, my grandson vacationing with us, and I go for a walk...a couple days ago on the way home we were behind a shopping center when there is a parking lot in the front and the back as well. just as we got to the end of the parking lot i couldnt help noticing something strange....this van pulls up next to a parking light and this lady gets out, looks around the light pole....this light pole is sitting on top of a cement cylinder base about 2=3 feet tall. I see her LIFT the base and feel underneath it and grabs something and goes back to the van where her friend was waiting..........hmmmmm.....what was she doing? i have no idea..

So the next morning.....same walk....we get to THAT light pole and i see no one around...im thinking ...hmmmm i wonder if something is there now!!!!!! ....i lift the base and feel my way in there and sure enough i got something!!!!!!

I looked at it....it does LOOK suspicious....i watch (used to) COPS etc so right away im thinking: Drug dealing !!!! We get home and i call the cops ...im asked the usual questions..where etc and i tell the dispatcher im not opening the cylinder..all i want is someone to come over my place and see it for themselves....so a few minutes later another cop (drug cop i guess) calls me we chat a moment and he tells me he will be right over.....sure enough within 5 minutes this GIANT (over 6 ft) cop shows up..bullet proof vest et all ...we talk and he picks up the cylinder and leaves....b ut i asked him to let us know the outcome of the investigation....

an hour later he is baaaaaaaaaack......tells me that hmmmm the package is part of a game called GEOCACHING ........i NEVER would have come up with that....EVER! !!!! and he pops the top off and sure enough there is a piece of paper with locations of other items....GEOCACHING for anyone that does not know is a game very similar to SCAVENGER HUNT ...except this one is done with GPS and satellites....so being the good guy i am....i went back to the parking lot and put the cylinder back under the cover.....this time i drove ..lol....

The picture is misleading because the cylinder is 3 inches long and 1 inch in diameter...and had the appearance of being wrapped in gold colored duct tape or foil....i didnt see the seam at the top

Pewwwwwwwwwwww

:clapping::clapping: Now this is a great story!:thumbup: I didn't think of geocaching until you mentioned it, but it makes sense. Some mders have even come across them while hunting. HH

You and your grandson will enjoy telling this story for years to come. Kelley (Texas) :)

I was a aware of geocaching as a hobby but i had never run across anyone doing it nor have I ever known anyone playing it. The whole activity by these people did look suspicious...They were not actually sneaking around but who goes around lifting the base of light poles? and feeling underneath it...lol.

and Roscue2 i am certain i read a post on FIndmall about MDers coming across geocaching while hunting.....i never imagined that I would come across the hobby while going out for a walk..

The wheels in my head were turning rapidly imagining me as some concerned citizen busting people for big time dope dealing.and it all started with that golden cylinder :rofl:

It is a pretty big hobby.

Indeed it is. And there are different levels of difficult. Some are not hard to find, others will have you climbing a mt and looking for a tree that looks like an old man on a toilet.

Here a couple years ago I went to a group metal detecting hunt in south Missouri and one of the guys had his wife with him . She had a list she got off the web showing and giving the numbers to look for those hidden Geo's . She found two in the park where we were detecting one was under a park bench and one was on a national Guard tank in front of there armery by the edge of the the park .I looked on the web site when I got back home and it said there was a third one over on the other side of the big park we was in she never went and found that one . I looked and there was like 8 hidden in a 8 mile or less range from my home they must be everywhere .

It has become a very popular hobby, and they are everywhere out there. I have never looked for or found one. HH
