Projectile point collectors?

Kapok

Active member
I have about a dozen arrowheads from my brother who passed away. He found them in the Cahokia Mounds area in southern Illinois. They are all different sizes, shapes, and colors. Does anyone know how to go about getting a value for these? I tried using some reference books about values but it was too confusing for me. I'll try to post some photos if there is any interest in them. Sorry if this is the wrong forum area.

I collect Indian artifacts and would love to see what you have.

I sent you a PM. But I will also post some photos here for others to see. I'm not necessarily out to make a sale or anything, just curious about the arrowheads and what kind they are, etc.

Here they are. On some you'll notice some wet looking substance--apparently he had them glued to a board at one point or something. The long narrow one left of center is my favorite. The dark red one at bottom left I actually found in a soybean field with him. It was a good memory... We were never sure what the big one on the far left is--maybe a scraper or something.

Let me know if you want closeups of any particular one. And thanks for any input from anybody.

Kapok, most of the arrows in the picture are pretty common field finds worth at most a few dollars each.
If you had some of the beautiful multi notched Cahokia points that are found in that area, they bring pretty good money.
I have found 3 Cahokia multi notched points here in West Central Illinois over the years and they are usually small bird points about an inch long or so
with very nice workmanship on them. I'd suggest purchasing a nice frame and making a nice display and hanging it on the wall, especially since they were found by your deceased brother.....HH

hey kapok You have some nice points .I see two that look like paleo points much older than the Cahokia people. The white one above the dime and the dark colored one at upper right. The others appear to be woodland era.Look up paleo points and you may be able to identify the older ones. It's a great hobby, go back and hunt where these were found and show us your finds.

I don't know much about them but they are very cool ... I especially like the variety of colors in the stones....I have found a few myself over the years while detecting in farm fields ..

Nice collection and my mother had quite a few she had found in our farm fields, but I dont know what she did with them, for they weren't in their home when mom passed away and then dad 3 months later! Do have a box of various flint stones that weren't finished....she would have loved MD'ing and collected all sorts of things...unusual rocks and etc.! Congrats to you and your brother....so sorry about his passing away and framing the collection would be good to do in his memory! May God Bless! Amen! :angel; Ma
