Progress Finding Age/Rarity/Value Of Old "F-S" Padlock. Somebody In The WhatIsIt Findmall Forum Found One Just Went Up For Auction. (Pic & Further Inf

While I could find plenty of "F-S" padlocks on the web in the $30 to $50 range, most of them looked rather plain compared to this one and didn't seem to look as old. That had me suspecting that perhaps this model was fairly rare, because believe me I searched hard and couldn't find a picture of mine, and came across some references to certain models being worth a fair chunk of cash but no clue as to which they were talking of.

Then I posted a message in the What Is It forum here on Findmall and somebody found it of fleabay, and it looks to have just went up for auction which probably explains why I couldn't find it on fleabay yesterday? Here is the pic of the one from fleabay...

The prior picture I posted of mine (seen below) I had only soaked the lock in olive oil before taking that picture but just now I took some soap and water and a very soft brush to it because it was still fairly caked with dirt. I made sure not to scrub too hard to remove any patina because I just wanted to get the olive oil soaked dirt off of it. I can now see remnants of the colors on mine in the patterns on it like the picture of the one from fleabay...

I'll be watching that fleabay link closely to see what that lock goes for as it looks like it was just posted (?) having over 3 days left to go on it and no bids yet. He doesn't have a key for his either but obviously it's in batter shape, but for being dug out of the ground mine is in pretty good shape being brass. I'm surprised mine still has remnants of the colors on the pattern depressions on the face. I'll post another picture of mine cleaned up here and with a better view of it by tomorrow.

Also, the fleabay posting says the "F-S" stands for Fraim-Slaymaker Hardware. So now I know the full name of that company and can do some more searching that way where as I was just searching for "F-S" before and could find locks from them on collector sites but none that looked like mine, many of which looked not as old and a lot more plain looking then this one but were still valued at like $20 to $50, and that's many of them being in rough shape, or without keys, or not being in working order.

So who knows maybe I'll get lucky and it's worth a few bucks to some collector being a rare model or something. I'm guessing it might at least be a $20 to $50 lock at the very minimum like many of the others I saw, but being that I can't find mine anywhere thus far on the web maybe it's a pretty rare one? Probably not, but hey...Everybody has to get lucky once in a great well, right?

What started to make me even think about checking this lock out is I've seen on American Pickers (love that show!) they have been on this stint lately at buying old padlocks, and many of them look as toasty as mine too maybe.

PS- The locking part still moves up and down on mine. It didn't until I soaked it in the olive oil for a while.

Got a better picture of mine now that I've washed it with soap and water to get the olive oil/and dirt slick off of it. As you can see it still has some paint on the recessed patterns...
