Programming question--I'm missing a step or two

Hello, I have a pattern that I want to make into my Quickmask screen. I go to Quickmask edit, change the screen to what I want, save it, but then when I go to Quickmask there is no pattern. I have managed to save the pattern as Pattern 6. What do I do next? Please, step by step would be helpful. Thanks!

hit quick mask.button...move the arrows to get your quick mask pattern setup....hit detect button ......save to smart screen....no......your quick mask pattern should be there when you hit quick mask button again
