Kevin. My advice below assumes you just got your E-Trac. As everyone has pointed out, I think you've got too much of the Smart Screen blacked out to be able to detect coins in the same hole with trash. Note its very common to have multiple targets under the coil simultaneously, especially in parks. I think what most beginners, including myself, the number of tones was the most overwhelming at first. So I would recommend you try the following:
1) Use quick mask to blank out FE 27-32; This will knock out the majority of Ferrous targets, but not all.
2) Switch to 4-tones instead of multi-tones for several hunts until you get a handle on other very important features, including sensitivity, gain, normal, threshold tone, etc.
Here are a couple things you can work on before switching to multi-tones:
1) Learn to tell the difference between a ferrous (e.g., iron) and non-ferrous signal (coin) by sweeping the coil in different directions to determine whether you have a repeatable signal (i.e., good target). Check for older posts on this very important topic.
2) Screw caps are everywhere in parks, and they often will hit in the range of 38-42 for the 1-liter size caps. Try learning to identify them before digging by lifting the coil 6" and if its still sounds off, you likely have a screw cap under your coil. Naturally dig the first 10 or so to convince yourself that it works.
Good luck and keep posting any questions along the way.
