Problems with my SE

Ever since I got my SE the screen will regularly split down the center. One side will be a little higher than the other side and pixels start to get stuck solid black. Another problem I have with it is that the performance dramatically changes after 45 minutes to an hour of hunting. As soon as the battery charge bar drops below full, the machine becomes very unreliable and really slows down on the signal separation. This is the case with my Minelab rechargeable battery pack and with the AA pack. I end up throwing out the AA batteries as soon as it drops below full charge and replace them. I have tried every setting possible and I still can't get rid of these performance issues. I have an inline probe and I use the small SE coil as well as the larger FBS 1050 coil. I have over 500 hours with this machine. II'd like to avoid sending it in to Minelab if at all possible. Is there anything I can do myself to try and troubleshoot it?

Thanks,

No self help things that I can think of. That sounds like a hardware problem and I don't think a reboot to default settings will correct it

I would suggest sending it in to ML. That is a flaw that was supposedly fixed a while ago. Expect a two month turn around to get your machine back though

.If you have the money buy a used SE that way you will have a backup AND you'll have a machine while ML is fixing your other machine.

That's weird about the battery ... have you tried cleaning the contacts? Maybe full power is not getting through and is causing these problems?

Is odd about the batteries especially since you cleaned the connections. Have you just tried calling ML in Vegas? They may have an answer without sending it in. Thats the one thing i dont like about Minelab... they just dont have enough repair sites. My batteries can almost go drained before i notice a change. Other people have mentioned they carry two batteries and change them at half way point. Now i have noticed if i use the slimpack that i cant set my sensitivity as high as i can with rechargeables. I run about 24 with the slimpack and 28 with the rechargeables before i get the same amount of instabilities.

It usually occurs in conjunction with using the back lit function. In fact it whenever it has happened it's because I'm using the back light. It also occurs in varying degrees of separation. Most of the times it's only a pixel or two of offsetting. Then, like this past weekend when I was doing a little night hunting, it got to where the right side of the screen separated almost 50%. My remedy is to shut the machine off and wait a few minutes before turning it back on. I have had my SE for two years now and I suspect it will cost me to have it looked at but I think I'm going to send it in this winter.

It only happened to me once and has never happened again. i switched between regular view and enlarged and that's when it kicked in. Ijust shut it off and it came back on with no problems. I bought my SE in Nov 06' Now if it kept happening then I would send it in and winter would be a good time as it will take them a couple months to get it back to you anyway.
