Problem with sounds or headphones on explorer

Ok, i posted a similar post about this awhile back but its really annoying me again lately so i wanna see if anyone has any suggestions, i have noticed that my explorer se pro has great nice flutie sound just like i see on all the online metal detecting videos and also on the emulator that i have on my computer, problem is, when you plug the headphones in it sounds completely different, it loses all flutiness. The sounds are still different for each level of conductivity but its not flutie at all, its more like a beep with no variation of tone, only on some deep targets does the tone sound at all similar to the normal sounds it makes out of the external speakers, can anyone tell me if theres does this same thing, does it sound way more flutie over say a wheat penny without the headphones as opposed to with the headphones, initially i thought it was the koss headphones so i purchased another brand of headphones and they sound the exact same way, do i need to turn the volume down on the detector? I think i have it almost maxed out? Any help would be awesome, Thanks, Sam

I suppose its possible, i dont remember if it sounded this way the entire time i had it or not, i think it did and i just never realized it until listening to some videos recently and going back and playing with the emulator

At first i was using the koss ur that came with the se pro new which was purchased a year and a half ago, then i bought some sony stereo headphones and i have even tried using ear buds from my ipod, nothing sounds even close to the speaker, i mean it works and i have used it this way the entire time , i just cant get over the difference, i might as well have a beep and dig machine like a whites,

Sounds like there's either something wrong with your jack or the audio module in your unit. With the Sony Stereo headphones you might need a mono-to-stereo adapter (mono male & stereo female). The Koss phones that came with the unit sound muddy, but you should be able to hear the different pitches. Maybe they sent you stereo headphones which need an adapter to work right. Do you have access to a pair of Gray Ghost (or similar) phones? If they still sound bad then you have a problem with your unit.

Nope, i just keep using it, i email minelab service dept and they said i needed to read 4 pages in my owners manual about changing the tones, obviusly i have read it and know how to change all that stuff but none of it changes anything that has to do with this, they said it could just be the difference im hearing in the sound going thru the open air to my ears versus straight to my ears thru the phones, Im just gonna forget about it and someday maybe i can afford a real good pair of headphones that will sound better
